yeah good idea keep reporting to the head honcho that his staff wouldnt let you in essence rip Tesco off, pretty sure the head honcho will make sure the glitches that are hppening are a thing of the past.

I understand its their policy but asking for DtD on a glitch that didnt work thats taking the !!!!.
Exactly guys! If I was asking for dtd on the 3 for 1.20 glitch, then I really would be a plonker! But this was a genuine 3 for 2 mistake by Tesc0 leaving the shelf label on. Cheers!

I was wondering, with all these glitches etc, do you think Tesco ever follow it up by tracking you through your bank card and clubcard? Would they be allowed to do this or would it be a breach of confidentiality?

Although technically we have done nothing wrong apart from take advantage of their mistake, its not stealing or fraud or anything is it?

    What are everyones thoughts ?

Although it is their mistake if you are aware of their mistake and do not bring it to their attention you have not disclosed an item of material fact that would have effected them entering into a contract and it is therefore fraud. However if they find this out at the checkout and still enter contract it is not fraud, or if they tell you you can't buy the item you've also not commited fraud.

The simple answer to your question you are correct to not use your credit card or clubcard because they are quite entitled to use this information to track you down.

I'm sure everyone knows about the policeman that they prosecuted for clubcard fraud, they were not overly bothered about the attention that brought them in the press. They will also take the moral high ground that they trust the majority of their customers to be honest and bring things like this to their attention.

I can't see Tesco being bothered following up the glitches, if they did and it hit the press, wouldn't it just highlight how many errors they still make.

I cant fathom out though what takes the price of some things down to 1p - if it is discontinued stock, why dont they just reduce it by 50% and sell it off?

The 1p finds are great, but in the grand scheme of things they are small fry to Tesco, but a lot of fun for MSE peeps ...

They reduce things to 1p as a final thing so that if the store have to 'waste it' (bin it) it doesn't !!!! up their figures as its a tiny amount. Also the store manager can sell to staff/donate to charity. I guess with clipstrips they are easier forgotten about!

ETA: Sorry, really hope that made sense...I have a hangover!

That was a completely different situation, the policeman you mention was actually scanning coupons and then putting in pieces of plain paper.

They are not allowed to use the information from clubcard or credit card to track you down - they could be prsectuted for this. Tesco didn't track the policeman down they contacted the police and they tracked him down.

    I was wondering about this.

You sometimes hear about someone being followed in store or asked to leave or even banned but has anyone ever had a problem after the event when they have been contacted by T saying that they have detected an 'unusual' shopping pattern or something they aren't happy with by looking at your shopping history rather than witnessing something in store?

I have certainly taken full advantage of glitches in the past (buy batteries, get free money was a favourite) and have probably paid by card on occasion and I am quite sure I have more dtd than the average customer so might a situation arise when they contact me by post? I can't imagine it.
If you're not scared, you're not paying attention
  • I used to get followed around all the time by security guards when I was doing R&R. I just used to walk round in circles and double back on myself to wind them up. Then once they went I'd stock up on the joints of beef and other freebies.
Also when I used a few £100 dtd vouchers in different stores I got a load of grief by CS and was told I had to sign up for a club card to use them. I just made up a name and address and smiled politely as I walked out with a trolley full of Turner Road wine that I knew I'd be getting another voucher for.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.
  • I was asked for my name and address when I got DTD once, I said can't you get that from my club card (which I had used) and the CS said no we can't get that info.

Lol, I was asked for my name and address when getting rnr on 2 dab radios and politely declined, if they have an offical form to fill in to give rnr or dtd then fine when they want to scribble it on a piece of paper because they want to be awkward then they can get stuffed.:p

I'd tend to disagree and I'd also like to point out that I'm sure they can afford better Solicitors than your or I. Fraud is one of the few events that can be civil or criminal, it is therefore not illegal for them to use clubcard information etc to track you down (remember it is the person being dishonest or not revealing the truth who is in the wrong).

As usual though many people have various opinions. It may be better to go to your local police station and ask their opinion and you'd then know for sure (if you don't have the front to do this, then you prbably already know that you are kidding yourself with your excuses)
