Kira - that's great news. Strange to put it like that, but as you say it is the best outcome now knowing she's not got more than the treatment you were already expecting. Hope it all goes well for her.

Ro - We are also planning to move our bed across so DH can just about get out of the room but there's a load more space my side for the crib. Downstairs though we don't have anywhere else to separate out, and cats rather than a dog so less chance of containing them anyway. Have got a travel cot space to try and discourage them if they do get interested, but I still reckon the noise and the smells from the baby (not that we won't clean her but she will smell strange to them!) will put them off in the beginning.

Forgot to say that there was an NCT nearly new sale last weekend that I got to. Baby now has some designer gear! I'd never have thought of getting john rocha or jasper conran sleepsuits myself, but at about £1 each I figured it would be nice to have some that weren't non-descript supermarket/primark/matalan :rotfl:

I don't post often, but just wanted to say I'm very chuffed with myself, just got a moses basket from freecycle, with washable mattress, fitted sheets- alomst brand new as the woman's baby was huge and couldn't use it for long :D Just looked it up online and its worth about £70, did spend £19.99 buying a wooden rocking base :o could have just put in on a table or a cupboard!

OH doesn't believe in freecycle he just thinks its people getting rid of rubbish, but after seeing the basket think I might have converted him!!

After work I'm picking up a travel system also from freecycle :p I'm aiming to get as much as I can for free, hopefully that is in a good condition as well, if not my parents have offered to buy us one.

... well done!!! I was not going to get one but faltered when I saw one for £7 at the car boot :rotfl:so getting yours on freecycle is great!!! I must confess havent bought a stand though yet!!
ooh I love bargains but if they are free its even better!!! my ex-boss is going to give me her pram and buggy which is helpful being on a tight budget!!!!

.. oooh you will have a posh baby in those outfits, what bargains!!

Think you are lucky with cats if they are anything like the one my mum used to have I am sure it would have run a mile at the sound of a baby screaming!! Glad to know not the only one doing a bit of shifting round in the bedroom, just want to do it only once though and get things right!! Bit worried about Dylan being nippy (he ate my slippers yesterday!) hence why designated zones will help! The only thing I am hoping is he does not bark when the baby cries and the baby cries because dylans barking OMG   I really hope not... Got one of those babaslings second hand so hoping he can be tucked up in there a bit safe from wandering dylan :rotfl::rotfl:

    Afternoon ladies!

How do you find out about these NCT sales? I've never been to one and think I'm missing out on some bargains!

My hubby made up our moses basket stand last night and I have put the stand and the basket in the corner of my sitting room where its going to be when baby is here so my 3 dogs can get use to it! They wondered what it was and they all just sat there looking at it! I'm trying to get them use to the baby stuff in the house slowly as they are very vigilant and notice any changes or new stuff in the house!

Has anybody got dogs on here and had babies before? I'm not concerned at all and I'm sensible, but getting quite fed up of people asking me what I'm doing with my dogs when the baby comes! I'm not doing anything with them, they are part of the family as well!

    Cloudberry's soup!!!

Working on a Polenta pie now.

Kira- great news, as well as can be expected! Best wishes to her.

Janniew- Never had children before, but have two giant lumps, and am not in the least concerned with children and dogs. Use common sense (sorry, that isnt meant rude!) and never leave in the same room alone, try initially to keep pup away when you're feeding baby, and do introduce them both in a controlled way otherwise the fascination will get the better of pup.

If you do go to an NCT sale definitely get there early - there was loads there and all separated out into age ranges and boy/girl/neutral as well. I guess they do it similarly everywhere. NCT members get in 15 minutes earlier so you want to be early in the queue. I think we got there about 30 mins before sale was open to all and there were already loads of people waiting!

Aside from the odd designer stuff there were lots of simple plain body and sleepsuits, sets of 4/5 for £1.50 or £2 so really good value and decent quality considering it was already used. They are hardly in the 0-3 months for long anyhow. It's worth the sellers only putting decent stuff out because they get something like 70p per £1 sold.

Baby isn't getting designer stuff at full price!!

Ro, i'm waiting to see how the cats are - they've got little experience of children and none of babies as far as we know so no idea how they will react. Four out of five were from rescue centres so we don't know if they've ever met babies. The last two we got were a brother and sister who were apparently given up because their owner was going to have a baby. We keep telling them they are staying with us no matter what - obviously they understand every word!

Agree that it is mainly common sense, when baby is here and I nip to the loo, the dogs will come with me (they do now, they are like 3 shadows!) Mine are just daft and I don't have concerns, but the way people look at me when I say the dogs are staying would suggest I'm asking for trouble and something bad is bound to happen.

We don't have a dog but we do have two cats. I think one of them won't be bothered at all, it probably won't even register with her that there's a screaming meatloaf in the house. Although she loves to get in things, boxes, bags, anything, so will have to keep her away from the pram and moses basket as she will be all over them. My boy though is quite jumpy and skittish. When we moved into this house two years ago he spent the first three weeks hiding in the bed (actually *in* the bed, under the duvet), only coming out to eat when no-one else was around. After he got over that and came out to explore the house, he would still fly up the stairs and into the bed whenever someone knocked on the door, or even when OH would go up or down the stairs, as they creak a lot and make a fair amount of noise. He's fine now though, although he hates the vacuum cleaner. He doesn't even like going near it when it's switched off and sat in the corner of the kitchen...
