Thanks for the reassurance all - it's just getting so close now (I've just arranged an NCT Group lunch 4 days before my due date - was that wise?) and I'm just panicking over EVERYTHING! DH keeps coming home from work finding me in tears - his usual response is 'what is it now?' lol

Good point actually :) we can always buy more of the larger ones if needed. We got the steriliser, 4 260ml bottles, 4 150ml bottles (I think) the bottle warmer, 2 insulated bottle bags and other things like tongs, soother etc for £55 delivered  Decent enough.

Love crafting I've been told not to express for at least 6 weeks to try get the baby used to the nipple, before switching to bottles. I'm planning on getting the medela breast pump, and already have 3 bottles to go with it so not sure if I'd pour into the Tommee Tippee bottles or just buy teats etc for the medela bottles. So confusing!!

I was told the same thing but to be honest i expressed from the kids being about three days old, generally so OH could experience feeding them aswel, with it being such an emotional bonding experience i found it important to do it. they all latched on absoloutley fine, but having babies is always the same, ask five people one question and you will receive ten repliest hat are entirley different.

I suffer alot with cracked nipples when i am breastfeeding so find expressing milk helpfull because i can express some and then use it on my nipples to prevent the cracking, and i wont exactly run out, especially after a few days omg when my milk comes in boy does it come in.

NCT told us 4 weeks before expressing, but I'm planning to try it a lot earlier so I can get some rest and OH can help out. :o

This is my first but I've been leaking milk at night for 4 weeks  and I'm only 20 weeks today. Obviously it's not proper "milk" but enough I'm having to wear breast pads. Really not sure what it'l be like as time goes on....

My DH is very placid, doesn't like arguments or confrontations but sometimes I want him to get angry for me you know?!

Oh yeah, know what you mean, mine's one of those too. Internalises everything though - which is really bad at the moment because he's worried about me so is bearly talking to me because he's so worried!

SkintCatt - I know its easy to say but honestly its much easier than all the equipment/manuals/advice make it sound. You just do whats best and easiest for you and your baby. Try to relax and enjoy it hun xx

BlueMonkey - I think you might need to see how things are nearer the time. Its difficult to plan with a baby you haven't met yet! We've talked about getting a night away for our wedding anniversary (baby will be about a month old) but until he's here we just don't know whether he'll be relaxed enough to stay with my mum, whether I'll be relaxed enough to let him etc etc...

I had no idea you were supposed to wait weeks before expressing?? Is that new guidance?

DH came home with a mahooosive box of Thorntons choccies to cheer me up after the mouse incident of this morning....he is wonderful really :)

they just have thier guidelines that they need to stick to it is adviced to let breastfeeding get established before introducing a bottle however i am due back at uni second week in Jan and my due date is the 18th Dec so my DD will have to bottle feed and be left for the day at maybe 2 weeks old....I am sure she will cope

  • guidance changes all the time, you know when i had my first daughter they said we should lay her on her stomache to sleep, my second was on there side with blankets rolled up and the last was on her back, then with breastfeeding it was exclusivley for six months, then it was 4 months but try to ween after then idk because i payed no attention. the new one is foreward facing prams can damage there mental health.

I want one evening out when Giblet's 6 weeks old (if he/she's on time!) as we have tickets for Sarah Millican but I don't know if Mom will be able to look after him/her for us - I'll have Giblet first and go from there!
