I got a kindle for my birthday in April from my husband, I love it! I love reading 'real' books too, but the kindle is so much easier to read in bed, for example, and doesn't disturb OH with page-turning noises when he's trying to sleep. I need some new books on it though.

skint catt have you taken any painkillers to try and help with the pain until they get closer.

i love readin but i do read any old rubbish, theres quite a few in my area who we just swap books with so its basically what ever anyone has bought i get to read, doesnt cost me anything though so im happy with that lol

i borrowed my mums kindle the other week but i really prefer reading form a real book for some reason (maybe its because i like disurbing hubby in bed lol)

Have you got a tens machine Catt? That might help with some of the pain. One of my friends who has a 10 week old said it really helped her during the latent phase.

Hi yes, contractions STILL 10 mins apart and getting really intense & painful now - I cry with each one, but the hospital don't want to know until they are 5 mins apart - they just don't seem to be getting any closer & it's been over 20 hours now :( Could really do with gas & air if nothing else.
Bit fed up now but DH's been a star :)

Sweetie ring them and say you are not coping very well and need some pain relief. You can always go in, be examined to see how you are doing then go home again if need be. Your hubby could always ring for you and say you can't possibly speak!
Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!

I don't have a Tens I can use in labour just a normal one which I can't - I didn't even think I would need it - I assumed it'd be so quick and I'd be in the birthing pool in no time. :( Don't want to get back in the bath as that all but stopped my contractions last night and they were 5 minutes apart

Keep up the good work lovie. My hypnobirthing lady said you need to get as much blood to the uterus as possible to allow it to do it's job. Relaxing and deep breathing helps this as do endorphins which are natural pain killers. Adrenaline puts you into f"ight" mode making you tense up. Also it's not possible to have adrenaline and endorphins at the same time... So get the endorphins flowing - OH gently massaging or tickling your back (ie to get goosebumps) might help with the feel good factor.

Also make sure your jaw is relaxed (tense jaw = tense undercarriage).

I hope this helps and doesn't come across as patronising! Having yet to go through it all I've no idea, but got to be worth a shot right?

  • Also, slowed down contractions means the baby might need repositioning. The polar bear position (chest, head and arms down on the floor/bed, with your bottom in the air - a bit like child's pose in yoga) will possibly help get the baby in the right place and might speed up contractions again...

  • I'm just reading trash at the moment, had the 'What to expect...the toddler years' book when was preggers before, missed out the pregnancy and first year one for some reason! I've been told the Mel Giedroyc pregnancy book/diary type thing is a chuckle; saw it in a charity shop but wasn't going to pay £2.50 for a paperback version of it! Will have a rummage at the library next time I go to the big one in town.

Don't mind the idea of a Kindle, although how much are the books to put on it? I like car boots and charity shops for books for no more than £1 or the library so imagine that the choice is more limited, and will cost more. Plus, how much time am I going to have to read once sproglet is here then I'm back at work?!

Thanks all - will try those Blue Monkey! I'm trying not to tense up but it's not easy. I've taken paracetomol but not sure it's touching it now.
    Thanks K, I think I might have to! :o
