I've had a couple of books given to me- I confess I've found them all quite boring, and have resorted to Stephen King and James Herbert. Makes my dreams a little more inventive, but probably isn't teaching me all that much about babies.....

KH gave me Clive Barker's Weaveworld when I was pg with DD1... what a book to give your terrified PG girlfriend

I like Stephen King though, even the couple of recent short story collections and I'm not usually a short story person. I liked the one in Just after sunset about the man with OCD and the stones in the field, that one really got in my head lol.

I like all the really cheesy Steampunk books as well, I've got quite a Stephen Hunt collection.

I can't stand Jodi Picoult, my friend gave me a couple and I just don't understand why people read them, they are all so depressing :o

I found baby/pregnancy books to be a waste of time... they only make you worry.

I found the pregnancy book you get through the NHS anyway covered everything I really needed to know (and featured some ladies with interesting old style buggies and hilarious dodgy haircuts - not that I can talk about the hair - I'm still trying to grow out the mullet that the blimming student hairdressing salon did!)
Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession :o:o

Pregnancy & Birth by Kaz Cooke is a funny but informative read - it's week by week and I loved it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rough-Guide-Pregnancy-Birth/dp/1848365594/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1317987897&sr=8-2
I have the Mumsnet guide too but that was a bit long & boring.

I'm a big reader- I've maybe 4-5000 books? Quite a few, I tend to find a series I like and stick with it. I'd be mainly into fantasy, sci-fi, the likes of Eddings, Pratchett, Elizabeth Haydon, Feist, etc..... When we split the study up to make a nursery, the pc and files went in DSD's room- the bookcases and a big comfy beanbag stayed in the nursery, so I have a library of sorts..... :)

Not really fond of typical girly fiction- can't name authors? Books about 20-40somethings who get dumped, run off from their wedding, fall in love with the neighbours cat- they don't do it for me! My downfall- once i start a book, I have to finish.

Have left a message with midwives regarding the cracking sound and pain- DH is probably more worried than I am (I'm just tired and grumpy, TBH), but suspect they'll ring back with either the 'Take paracetamol and deal with it, it's normal' line, or if they're particularly worried (won't be!) 'Go to hospital when you finish work'......

I'm really over using my kindle at the moment, I love reading and know my time for it after baby is here will be severely limited. :o

Mines in my hospital bag - got a few new books on there that I haven't started yet. Should be easy to use one handed when feeding!

Hi yes, contractions STILL 10 mins apart and getting really intense & painful now - I cry with each one, but the hospital don't want to know until they are 5 mins apart - they just don't seem to be getting any closer & it's been over 20 hours now :( Could really do with gas & air if nothing else.
Bit fed up now but DH's been a star :)

I think this can be because members get priority entry (half an hour early I think) so anyone who isn't a member probably does have to wait if they arrive too early. The one I attended was attached to my antenatal class so we were first in by the back door but yes, I've heard there are usually queues.

What a good idea, never thought of using while feeding, that's a plan! I love my kindle, never thought I'd prefer something over "real" books but they are amazing pieces of kit.

I agree - I really wasn't sure when we bought them (hubby bought one for me & I bought one for him) but I love it!
