We have 3 cats, 2 of which whizz around the house like mad things, so just didnt fancy the idea of moses baskets being knocked over esp off stands, and have read they shouldnt be used really to carry round in as alot of the handles arent really up to it. My dad and Step mum are buying us a John Lewis rocking crib for upstairs, which i hope to use for the "proper day time naps (oh dear i've been reading baby whisperer too much), size wise that should last to approx 6 months unless beanie turns out huge. DH's parents are buying us a cotbed for after that but we wont need to get that till after beanie is here. We also have the M&P sola pram top, which you can use on the pushchair, but i bought an overnight mattress for it so we can use it for downstairs if needs be, or going out/away- it seems alot sturdier than a moses basket.

There are 3 sided cribs like you mentioned, which you can pull up to the side of your bed, kind of like co-sleeping but keeping wee one in its own space.

In answer to people's questions, apparently New Years Eve is the most popular night of the whole year to conceive and that is why there are so many September Birthdays. I read about this a few years ago. I am a September baby but was very early so I'm assuming I was a valentines baby :o September has most babies born in the whole year too. I'm convinced it's the cold nights that does it...

Cribs/moses baskets etc, we're going with a swaying crib, not swinging, that's important apparently  We don't have the room for a cot, which I'm annoyed about as we're out of here 3 months after bubs is born. Such a waste of money, we've bought the stand and extra mattress for the pram so baby can lay in that during the day for naps. We live in a 1 bed flat!!! But I've been told using a different "bed" for during the day gets them into a day/night mentality faster.

Lirin - there is a lurgy going around at the moment, I'm convinced I caught it from OH's mum, and now he has it, but of course his is the worst cold ever. MEN.

I wouldnt worry too much about what you are "told". I was given the baby whisperer book by next door, and reading it, the "expert" midwife /nurse/nanny/coach woman who wrote it, strongly advised always putting your baby down to sleep in a proper sleep context, in their cot/crib in a room, with curtains drawn, so that baby learns the cues for "its sleep time now" in order to help them get into good sleep habits for later, and doesnt get over stimulated and confused by other activity. So i guess it just depends what tack you want to take, and what will suit your circumstances!

I don't know the name of what this person does, I met them through my OH's mum. She said night time sleeping should have a routine, i.e bath, feed, bed, they begin to know they should sleep for longer type of thing. Whereas during the day napping is more sporadic to start with.

I'm going down this route, my OH has 3 siblings, and his mum said they were all really good sleepers, so I'm hoping my following her pattern I'll get the same :p

Sounds similar to the baby whisperer.. routine routine routine so baby knows what to expect. I think she used EASY, Eat, Activity, Sleep, You time (mum/dad that is!). Just repeat throughout the day, so after eat is always activity, be it change, bath, play, go out etc.

I'm hoping for a good sleeper too- DH and I were both super sleepers as kids, crying if you tried getting us up! So far beanie has a mad hour or two kicking from 9-11pm, then quietens down almost entirely till 8-9am!

My mum always told me to do the last feed of the day in a very dimly lit room so that they know the difference between daytime naps and nighttime sleeps.

I'm not keen on the baby whisperer - baby then doesn't like it when the routine is interupted for visitors, holidays, illness etc etc. Plus there is no way I can do that having 2 other kids what with school, parties, clubs etc!

I know what you mean. Its not a book i would have bought for myself, but i gave it a read to see what it said. I did think there was alot of common sense in some of her points, but other bits i wasnt quite so sold on!

Oh God, my baby seems to be awake and active from about 4pm until 11/12. If that's a sign of things to come, I thought by 20 weeks they were supposed to be acting more like a new born!

I do get fidgets and kicks through the day as well, but that evening 2 hours is the most active. Its the only time i can see the kicks from outside at the moment. Think she wears herself out with it, and then needs the night to recover!!

4pm-midnight isnt too bad.. Midnight till 7am would be a nice length of sleep to get!
