    That sounds really love Kira...not!!!
How long did it take for you to get your results?
    xx

I had the test on Thursday morning, and was told the results would be ready Saturday morning, and that i would be called over the following days if there was anything i needed to know. I hadnt heard anything the next week, so for peace of mind, called them up the following week, and they confirmed it was fine.

Evening all! Just caught up on today's posts... My health visitor was saying the other day that apparently the Inland Revenue is the best place to work when it comes to maternity pay, they do the full year at full pay!

Just catching up... this isn't true. Hubby works for HMRC and also my friend who just went back in Dec after her maternity leave (it's 6 months paid, same as my private sector company)......

    Hi Ladies and Bumps,

I have a couple of questions for you all please.

Firstly, what are the benefits of using the exercise balls? Just wondering what you actually do with them as saw some cheap ones in Tesco today. Also, has any one bought a second hand travel system/pushchair or is it not a good idea to buy that sort of thing second hand?

    Thanks Ladies :0)

My GTT was ok. I thought the drink thing was fine to be honest too.

My hospital allows you to go home and come back 2 hours later for the next blood test as long as you promise to go home and put your feet up (no hoovering etc). I packed a sandwich when I went back 2 hours later, so that I could eat as soon as the test was over rather than waiting to get back home again (although it is only 10 mins car drive) :)

Laura - Exercise balls are first off good for posture, for non pregnant people too, which could help throughout your pregnancy with back ache. They also encourage baby to get into a good position, less likely to be breech etc as you are sitting up properly and not slouched on the sofa etc. They can also be quite comfortable (for some apparently) later in pregnancy. You can sit on them, lean over them, and they can also be used in labour. I bought a cheap-ish exercise ball and it's not anti burst, which they're supposed to be (I found out after) I just make sure I'm near something I can grip onto so if it was to burst I wouldn't injure myself. You can get an anti burst ball quite cheap online.

2nd hand travel systems, nothing wrong with buying second hand, as long as the system isn't too old or rickety and looks in good condition, it can save you a packet. The only thing is you need a new car seat and if you have a mattress for the carry cot I'd buy a new one of those too.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

Thanks hon, appreciate it! I'm having odd stirrings today, and definate nesting thing going on, but not getting my hopes up. Would LOVE to go naturally even it happens on weds when i'm due to be induced, just cos i wont need so much montioring and i might be able to try the brith pool.

I have a second hand M&P Sola- pretty much pristine, and bought the carrycot/pram top second hand separately to make the system. As long as its good condition, and well maintained, and is one which can be properly cleaned, its not a problem. I did buy a brand new overnight mattress for the carrycot bit, just cos second hand any mattress for babies isnt good, and i wanted to use it for naps and going away as well. The only other bits its not nec a good idea to get second hand, is the car seat/bases. But the way we looked at it, we saved about £200 by buying the Sola bits 2nd hand, which meant we could afford to spend more on a really good Cabriofix seat and 2 isofix bases (one for each car).

Re: exercise balls, make sure it is strong one, and is antiburst, otherwise not suitable for use in pregnancy/birth for safety reasons. Plus make sure its the right size- for 5ft8 i need a 65cm ball. Taller than that and 75cm is better, and under 5ft5, 55cm is prob ok.
Using the ball to sit on in pg, opens up your pelvis to help the baby move downwards, and leaning on/over it, helps to turn a back to back baby. Its also quite comfy to lean on during early labour apparently.
