She who never saves a penny will never have many

Well lets start with a little introduction of myself, I am married and have 2 beautiful children who are my absolute world. I have a 10 year old DS and an 8 year old DD.
We became debt free in June 2011 after paying off £13.5k of debt which had quickly built up. I was too busy studying and just took my eye off the ball and hence ended up in a financial mess.
You may be wondering why I still need to be writing a debt free diary and the simple answer is I like this board and have "met" lots of lovely people here who helped me through some of the dark days of despair.
I recently qualified as an accountant and are now looking into starting up my own small business which will cost me money to set up. Our house is also in need of a few jobs doing which again will cost money so I'm hoping that by continuing to keep a diary it will keep me as focused to save money as I was to getting rid of the debt.
As the title says she who never saves a penny will never have many -how true of my life that is.
So the focus is now to save for house improvements, business start up costs, long term savings and continuing to budget. Mortgage overpayments would also be nice but thats probably something to think about next year.
I'm also planning on not mentioning the D word again on this diary, thats all in the past now, lessons have been learnt and its time to move on and look to the future.
Onwards and upwards

Hi Mummy

Hope you're well xx0 -

Hurrah to choogirl!! :j and yay for a new diary!
Good luck with the next step of the journey
you mentioned a website on your old diary - I am looking into this at the moment and there are lots of ways you can build it all yourself without too much hassle - templates etc. If you have any techy friends, or a friendly IT person at work, you could ask them. My IT chaps were very helpful and pointed me in all sorts of handy directions.
Will subscribe! x0 -
Good Afternoon
Well I've played a great game today, its called how many times can I put the washing out and bring it back in again. The showers have been quite heavy but I think the winds managed to dry it all now so no need for the TD.
I've had a really productive day, I have made
2 lasagnas
2 large cottage pies and 1 small cottage pie
2 chilis
2 dishes of mashed carrot and swede
All are now stashed away in the freezer for the weeks ahead, my mantra is - take the effort to make one and you might as well make 2!
I have also used the BM and had lovely homemade bread with some homemade soup for lunch and baked a chocolate cake for later. The cakes going to be chocolate heaven as its going to have chocolate butter icing, chocolate on top with a sprinkling of twirl.
The freezers are full to bursting at the moment so this weeks grocery shopping should only consist of veggies, fruit and dairy products. I really need to use some food up in preparation for christmas food.
DH is catching up with the ironing and I'm supposed to be doing some work for a client but I'm just having a quick break. Will catch up with diaries later.
I'm back in the world of IT again, I bought a new laptop but got a good deal through quidco.
Quidco paid out last week for the hotel stay that we had when we went to Legoland so that moneys gone towards my professional subscription and I'm still waiting for a survey cheque to arrive and a Tolun8 voucher to be sent as well.
DH is making curry for tea tonight as I'm all cooked out today.
Hope everyones having a lovely Saturday xxx0 -
Hi Lionheartedgirl
Our postings crossed, thanks for finding me. I know a few people who are very IT literate so I will be asking them for some help with setting up my website. Its all abit daunting at the moment, theres alot of research to be done before I launch into anything.
Will catch up with your diary later, I'm sure its moving at its usual hectic pace xxx0 -
