The only special rules that seem to apply to motorway services is that they seem to prefer that you drive on, not full rested and possibly have an accident, rather than overstay an arbitrary time limit in one of their car parks.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

That is why I feel that this practice should be outlawed completely.

I came back from Birmingham and stopped off at a service station up on the M5, it was a 2 hour stay and chargeable after that. The only options were to pay by phone, pay by text, you phone a premium rated number for the first with credit card details, and obviously a mobile for the second.

What happens if you don't have a mobile phone? What happens if you don't have debit/credit cards? The answer of course is if you stay over 2 hours you get invoiced by these companies. Safety comes first its that simple, any other consideration is not worth worrying about. If I needed a sleep and went over by 30 minutes or 3 hours, it means I needed that rest.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Totally agree. And now that PPCs can't even offer parking facilities where they don't own the land it must follow that all of their signs in such locations are invalid and can be totally ignored. In the absence of the land owner erecting their own signs requesting payment then it follows that the car park is free for however long you need. :j:j:j

My guys now stop and sleep for 3 or 4 hours when they need it for safetys sake. In the past they used to set an alarm for just under 2 hours and then, feeling dreadful and drowsy, drive onto the next service area to get some more sleep. Sometimes they were so tired they slept right through the alarm and we later received the inevitable threatograms.

My pile of PPC/Debt Collector letters grows by the week. Each one that arrives puts a wry smile on my face as I regard each one ignored as another small victory over these scamming shysters.:rotfl:

It will be an even more signaificant victory from October when you can use the POPLA appeals procedure to bring their tactics to the attention of POPLA and cost them £27 plus VAT every time just for you to then ignore them whatever the outcome. Worth collecting a few more fake PCNs for!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • We know the PPC invoices are unenforceable, whether at a supermarket or at a motorway service station, but humour me for a moment.

It's my understanding that for an operator to be granted the concession to run one a motorway service station, they have to provide certain facilities free of charge, including toilets and parking. I wonder what the concession agreement/contract says about the duration of the free parking. Does it really allow them to (attempt to) charge for parking beyond two hours? Even if the HA do allow this now, I bet older contacts issued several years ago would not have done.
  • Thank you for the advice , I will ignore thois

Rather than bumping old threads, you would be far better to have started your own.

However, there is no difference whatsoever to this scam - private parking is private parking whereever you are in the UK. So there is absolutely no reason to think aything special applies to a motorway services car park over any other. IGNORE! :)

And there are plenty service station threads her if you want to look - and check the forum sticky to see the letters they are going to send you.

just charged me TWICE but only sent ONE receipt.

visa refunded the second charge within minutes.

EVERYONE should report this firm to the organisation who employs them in this case that is NHS Glasgow.

It is disgraceful that a firm should do this in a hospital car park where people are trying to park when going to see their next of kin in intensive care.

    ugh ugh ugh

You are right, but you've just bumped an old of date thread instead of creating a new one, we try and not to use these threads as things have and do change. Please can you use the parking sub forum if you wish to discuss this further.

    Many thanks :)
