I wouldnt eat it. I am very wary of reheating rice at the best of times.

Sorry - I would have to find something else for tea.

    I would eat it.
I have a three day rule about cooked food and if it`s not eaten then i would throw it.
As long as it`s reheated thoroughly it should be ok as today is the third day.
I`ve regularly eaten 3 day old rice as DH used to work shifts and i precooked meals for him to reheat at odd times.

thanks essex girl and rikki, thats what i thought!

though now im going to feel guilty for throwing it away. I got so used to cooking for more than just me, i keep making way too much of everything.

though ysterday i made chilli, and wasnt thinking when i put the spices in. Put enough in for a giant vat full! Had to eat it half and half with yoghurt and it was still way to spicey!

will need to get used to cooking for one though.:(

Ooooooooh, I hope my canteen cooking friend doesn't see you all saying this. She has to go on regular courses and one of the things that gets hammered home all the time is about cooked rice. It should be chucked if it's not used straight away as there's all sorts of nasties on it apparently.

(I, on the other hand will keep it for one day. I class that as a compromise. :D )

I don't think it's the reheating that's the problem, more how long it stood at room temperature-

    From the food standards website-

"Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.

So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.

It's best to serve rice when it has just been cooked. If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) and keep it in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating."

I have eaten reheated rice before and was fine but since a friend pointed out the above to me I wouldn't do it again just in case.

From Rose Princes "New English Kitchen": "Cool the rice quickly in the pan with the lid off, immersing the base of the pan in a bowl of very cold or iced water. It will keep in the fridge for about 5 days.Smell it and inspect for deterioration before use."

Perhaps she's the type that cooks rice and peas in the same pot.
