Yes, as long as you heat it up properly before eating it. i regularly do this - except in the really hot summer. I know mash doesn't usually last long the next day as I will have it with cheese and grilled for brekkie.

Pop them in the fridge now tho - seeing as you have remembered.

    Hi jomo,

I agree with Zazen, as long as you heat it thoroughly it will be fine to eat. I'll add your question to the Quick Questions on food safety as it helps to keep the replies together.

    Don't worry I'm not being rude! :p

I got some chicken out of the freezer the other day and put it in the fridge to defrost. It's still in the sealed container I bought it in from the supermarket so not worried any nasties have got in, but I am a little concerned because it seems to have leaked out loads of red/bloody water, in fact the level of blood or water (not really sure what it is - I read somewhere that chicken in supermarkets is injected with red dyed water to make it look more healthy so it isn't really blood, but not sure.) is about 1/3 to 1/2 of the packet.

Our freezer is a bit overactive - the ice on the outside of anything solid in there is about 3mm thick and we were running out of room so the chicken was in the fast freeze compartment. I checked that the freezer wasn't defrosting and refreezing itself by putting 2 ice cubes in a plastic tub and they are still cubes (just covered in frost!) so I know that isn't the problem.

Do you think the chicken will be alright to eat? I don't want to open it and check in case it is okay because you're not supposed to leave chicken open! So we won't know that way until tonight. My gut feeling says it will be okay because the packaging is sealed so no bacteria can have got in, and it probably just looks a bit manky but it's the colour of the liquid which is disturbing me.

I have turned the fridge down (it's a fridge freezer but the freezer doesn't have its own control) in the hope that it will help but I think I might be bugging the landlord to either get it serviced or replace it, it seems to have got worse since we moved in and I don't see the point of a freezer which ruins food!

if it is in date and the sealed packaging isn't "blown" of puffed up i would eat it, a small amount of blood can look like a river with added water, and supermarkets do love to add water!

Thanks, I know they like to add water to the value stuff but it was sainsbury's healthy living range, grr, probably because it was on offer! I really ought to start going to the butcher's, hoping to get into a weekly routine of butchers and market once baby is born and I'm feeling up to getting up and about after the birth!

If it smells OK it should be fine, I got a chicken a while ago from waitrose and it was well within it's sell by date (by about 4 days), but when I opened it you could tell straight away that it was off by the smell, believe me you really would know if it was off, I can still imagine the smell now, yuck

    Hello everyone,

first time back here for a while, but have a house again now so can use the computer.

Just wondering, if rice that i cooked on friday night, will still be ok for me to have for my tea tonight? It was cooled properly and everything. And im going to reheat it.

Did a search but couldn't find anything.

    Thank you all!!
