  • Use them,as siad before just give a quick visual check for creepies.

Make big effort to use them in the very near future,in lots of different way.Maybe cook in plenty of liquid dishes ie- chili, stews, soups.

Bung the bags, unopened, into the freezer for a couple of days to kill any possible little "visitors" and then use to make soups, casseroles etc to go into the freezer = no further deterioration and an easy meal the next time you need a day off from cooking from scratch.
  • Glad to see everyone in agreement ;) I'll add this to the Use by Dates Quick Question thread to keep all suggestions together.

    Hiya...

I have just made a lasagne and used a jar of white sauce (i know i know) but after doing all the layers i noticed a tiny bit of mould floating on the top of the top layer....and also on the inside of the rim of the jar. Usually i would bin it straight away, but its a huge lasagne, 2lb of mince! I've carried on making it as normal and it is int the oven now....almost ready.

My question is....is it still safe to eat?? will it be horrible?? Should i use my partner as a taste tester first....i havn't told him yet as he would refuse to eat it!

    Thanks for opinions!

What is the date on the sauce? Is it well out of date?

Dont know if they will but i would ask them to compensate for the cost of the other ingredients as it has ruined your meal?

I think it would be safe to eat. You should have just picked off the bit of mold you saw and then forgotten about it. There was probably very little in the jar.
People eat moldy bread all the time - even if they notice and pick off the green bits, they still eat the stuff you can't see.

Cooking the lasagne should kill anything in it. Really - don't worry.

It should be safe to eat. I have once or twice taken some mould off a tin of tomato puree after I left it in the fridge a few days after opening, and I came to no harm. If it's only a tiny amount there should be no problem at all. :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
