I think long distance relationships can work if you want them too. My husband was in the army so was away for months at a time and lived in Germany for the first few years of our relationship. We have been together 16 years now!! It's so much easier to stay in contact these days with e mail, facebook and skype e.tc. so you can still see each other virtually. It will be hard being apart but it also keeps your relationship new and exciting and it's good to miss each other and look forward to seeing each other. Your relationship won't get bored and stale like many do. Good luck with it0

that sounds encouraging to me. Just do it, see how it works out. With a long distance relationship you do have to be honest with each other about how things are going, sometimes one of you will get lonely and fed up, sometimes it will be the other one of you. Stay contactable.
I had a very long distance relationship with my OH when we first met (ie thousands of miles) and through our marriage he has also worked away sometimes (as he is right now). Being able to call him any time when I miss him most is invaluable, and necessary imho when you don't see each other every/most days.
3 hours distance is totally do-able, if its what you both want.0
