I'm sure the US government already think they *own* the world.
I vote for Firewalker.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks for the confidence, guys! How long do you think I have so it is still worth it taking over?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Firewalker0 -
FW - I'd start as soon as you can, a bit of common sense is required.
Well I'm back from my travels 'North of the Border',first time I've been there for ages as last weeks visit was cancelled. They let me in anyway - didn't stop me at the border for talking weird or anything.
Met the lovely Souk08 who was just as I imagined she'd be, and such a good laugh. Replaced my WW points with wine:o
Busy day today, and then left for home; took a wrong turn and instead of going on the nice new empty motorway, ended up at the river crossing and on the main motorway through the city along with all the homeward bound commuters. Not a happy bunny:(
It's going to be a bit of a struggle getting through the weekend, as I've put £90 petrol in the car the last couple of days, so that has wrecked my calculations a bit. I've got a claim for over £200 waiting to be paid, and now this one, so its only a temporary blip. It will be better when I get my own company car, not a hire one, as then I'll get a fuel card, so won't have to pay it out first.
Off to bed in a bit.

Morning
another cold day, but I've sort of got a free day. Have to type up notes from last couple of days, but that's about it.
So I've looked in the fridge and the freezer, have meal planned for the next 5 days so far; that only leaves Wednesday night and as I'll have driven back from Scotland, I'll think about that on the day.
DS is OK cooking for himself (well he should be at his age!), manages well when I'm away, but when I'm there, he tries, he really does - but I get so fed up with the "can you just check that for me" and "where's the xxx" that I take over. Or maybe that's the plan. But there's no way I'm cooking after a 4 hour drive, so may leave him the instructions for something for the slow cooker.
I think I need to buy:-
Milk
Drinks for DS
cereal
fruit
Can't think of anything else - have plenty of cleaning stuff, will make some soup and some bread. The only other thing I may need to get is bread for sandwiches. DS doesn't really like crusty bread, prefers the cheap stuff from the supermarket.
Woke up to the news that Souk has got the job she's been waiting to hear about for ages. So :j:jDebts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

You need a break after the week you've had! Had to laugh at what DS does once you get back - I can just imagine!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Glad border patrol let you through okay.
My OH is English and always jokes about being deported. :rotfl: Only disadvantage of his accent is that it tends to carry when out in public - or maybe that's just because he's loud....:oSuccess is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Congrats to Souk on the job
Gill - you certainly are getting the miles in in your new job. Does it help keep your living costs low - or not really cos of the DS factor? How's he getting on with getting his benefits reinstated?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

It's changed a lot since I last drove to Scotland, the motorway used to stop just after Gretna.
Thoroughly enjoyed myself though, and will be spending at least one day a week in Scotland until about April.savingholmes wrote: »Congrats to Souk on the job

Hi SH, you're right, living costs would be less except for 2 things, I need to leave food in the house for DS, and at the moment he isn't working or getting benefits. If there was only me, I would be saving a fortune!
He has filled in the forms (with assistance;)) and has an interview in a week or two; hopefully he'll keep calm and explain his case properly. It's not realistic to expect someone to pay for a taxi home when they've been working 5 hours on minimum wage. Especially as it would cost around £15.
Today I am off to buy things like tomato pur!e and veg stock cubes. As strangely I haven't got any.
What I have got though in my storecupboard under the stairs is:-
Rice
Pasta
couscous
Tinned tomatoes
Bread mixes
Flour
Lentils
So if I get some veggies it would be easy to feed just me, without spending any money. Unfortunately I doubt DS would eat that sort of thing.
Damp and cold at the moment.
Again next week I am back in Glasgow for one day! And next week, Cornwall for just one day! Nothing local for me.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Having been inspired by reading a few diaries,I'm trying to persuade DS to sort out his surplus stuff to put on Amazon/Ebay or whatever. Even music magpie the amount of old DVD's and CD's he's got that just live in a cupboard.
I'm not very good with Ebay, its too much of a faff for me, and my photo's always look rubbish, but he should be able to take half way decent ones.
He'd have to use my paypal account*, but that's not a problem, as its linked to the card I use for shopping, and he's an authorised user on that account anyway.
* he is trying not to use the account he had when working as it has an overdraft facility, so has opened a basic bank account.
Nothing much else happening here, yesterday I was so tired, didn't really do much except caught up on telly watching.
Today, BM is on, and have plans for a nice meal later.
...and I am definitely going to sort out the oven. Somebody recommended e-spares, so will look on there for the element. They seem to be about £20/30 so seems reasonable. It can't be that hard to fit a cooker element can it? So long as you turn the power off at the mains?
Then at least if its not the element I've saved myself the £80 call out fee for a proper electrician.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
