you emailed your debit card details to a random stranger?

Apart from the fact the email isn't secure, every internet and phone purchase you do is the same.
Or do you go round and vet everyone you buy from in person first?

I think some of these rules are ridiculous. They should apply to major companies but frankly in the above example which is a small business where there is a genuine reason for the problems there should be no restriction on the company posting to explain why the issues occurred. Too many posters on this site instantly report to the moderators any minor infraction in the above rules, which then leads to threads being closed down. Its ridiculous

What if the poster was not infact the company they are claiming to be?

'I'm sorry to hear of your experience, please telephone us on XXX'
    'I was advised to telephone'
'Thank you for contacting us, please confirm yoru bank details so we can issue a refund?'

Do you get where this is going?

If this happened, I wonder how many people would turn around and say 'maybe MSE should do more to protect it's members..'
  • Emailing your card details including the security code really is stupid! Whilst the email servers may be secure there is no way of knowing whether the senders email is.

The rules exist because there is no way of any of us confirming Adrian is exactly who he says it is. It could be any random person spouting any such nonsense.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

As usual ridiculously extreme examples are being posted to back up a weak argument!

The "company rep" did not do anything that you referenced above, they have posted the reason why they have been out of contact and stated a refund has been processed. All the OP wanted was a way of getting their money back, it appears (won't know until we get confirmation from the OP) that they have received a refund. This is all the OP wanted, not accusations that they are stupid for providing card details to a business.......

However it is not against MSE rules for a poster to criticise the OP's actions, but it is against MSE rules for the company to resolve the complaint. Absolutely ridiculous!

It's a perfectly valid argument for a perfectly acceptable and understandable rule.
  • I have also had similar problems as burner007 in regards to getting in touch with The Aston Experience. I paid for an Aston Experience last November (through Groupon) and I have had two bookings cancelled since. I am trying to rearrange the booking for a third time but I have had no contact back from Adrian for over 7 weeks. I never get an answer when I call and I have not received an e-mail back. It is very frustrating. I don't want to cancel as it something I have always wanted to do, but how much more can I take. Adrian, as you have already responded to this lady, please could you do me the same service and get in touch with me. I e-mailed you and left a voicemail today.

    visa debit

VISA debit offer that same refund capabilities as a credit card. Do a charge back as mentioned above.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring
  • I too cannot establish contact with Adrian at Aston Experience. I am sorry that he is unwell and wish him better very soon. However, I paid significantly more for my husband's Aston experience and directly with the company. I too would like a refund please Adrian. I have left telephone messages and emailed you. Rather than your answer phone messages saying you will contact us as soon as possible it would be better to say you are unwell and find a helpful friend to contact worried customers.
  • I to am having trouble contacting the Aston Experience. I booked the deal through groupon last september. I have had the car cancelled on the morning I was due to get it twice, both times with no priar warning. The first time was due to a "accident" with the car on the trailer. The second was due to "mechanical" problems. For both these occasions my wife and I had taken time off work to enjoy the day. I have it booked in again for the 5th & 6th November but have been trying ot contact Adrian both on the phone and via e-mail to confirm, but with still no joy. All Im looking for is either confirmation of the booking or a full refund. Its not to much to ask, is it!
