re-wireless printers

Hi, It looks like a new printer for me, awaiting Lexmark to E-mail me back to try and fix it..In the meantime I m looking at others.
1.Does anything have to be done to pc for wireless printer to work, mines usb.
2. Is there a thread where new printers are compared, and whats worth/or not/ bying? Cost of inks being the most important, after performance.3.Just want a cheap all inone with reasonable priced inks.I use compatibles from IJT, half the price of lexmark , but good enough for my needs.

You would install a wireless printer as a network printer on your PC. Its a fairly similar process to installing a normal printer.

very often -- with the cdrom install provided - it automatically finds and installs the printer on the network . sometimes, esp. with win 7 even that is not needed. sometimes on the computer file and printer sharing has to be enabled -- depends on the setup and whether u have multiple machines/users being granted access. It's a simple setup nowadays though . Most, such as hp and lexmark and canon, come with a simple handy setup guide -- takes u through the process.

Hi dixiebb, thanks. Got vista on laptop, using it wireless.Just thought wireless would be better than carrying pc from room to printer, when using pc in another room..Just me uses it, 1 printer only. There are 2 other printers on , but i have never put them on, had pc from new.Lexmark is default.Applo and another.was on from new. Is that part of vista premium devices ?
Is there a thread about printers? and Inks?

Hi, santer, it,s me again. I have tried umpteen times to try and get Lex going with no joy. Sent e-mail to them, said it could take ages. Now I,ve tried my cd installation, and SPOOLER is not on, also found that when I clicked on network to see if printer was still on. add a printer. So if I buy a new one, spooler needs enabling.
    What,s the spooler.?
How do I switch it on.?
    How come it,s switched off?
I,ve told installer to switch it on to proceed instal. but nowt happens.
    cheers .

Click start then run, type services.msc then click OK. Give it a bit to show the services box, look for print spooler, they are listed alphabetically, left click it to highlight it, right click it, click properties, set the start up type to automatic, click apply. Click to start the service then close the services box

    1. Click Start then Run

    2. Type in

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dllfile

    then click OK

    3. Re-start your computer

You can copy and paste the bit to type in to the run box if you prefer
