I have just realised this is going to take me quite a while to catch up on, hope that is ok? I've just spent four hours and dont seem to have made much progress but Ive learnt a lot!

    For clu and everyone:-

Time is not an issue, honest :)

I've said on an individual basis here and there that even if you've only got as far as adding one link - then your index is already more useful than the older one, or the section of the MEGA Index, that you have taken over.

    So you're already winning :)

Team Old Style really rocks! :D

I've no doubt this is in entirely the wrong place, but I just want to say a HUGE thankyou to ALL the volunteers and board guides who are trying to make life easier for all the thickies like me! Your efforts are very much appreciated!

Please feel free to delete this post, i just felt I had to make it!!

No such thing as thick. We all know different things to each other. I'm sure that you know a whole bunch of things that I don't.

It's why this board is so useful - we each know different things and pass them on to others. If we all knew the same things we wouldn't need the board!

Oooh! Thanks Churchmouse icon7.gif and this is exactly the right place.

And it's clever folk like you, with all of your brilliant ideas, that make this indexing stuff such a pleasure to do. I can do a list, but I am a serious thicko when it comes having OS ideas. I learn so much from here and it has made such a difference to me, so thank you too icon7.gif

Like squeaky says, Team Old Style rocks :rotfl:
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

  • Morning all! Really getting into this, and learning loads. Realise it'll take a while though. I stopped on Saturday with a post on page 478. When I came back this morning the post was on page 481

I've been adding into my list anything that might be vaguely related to the topic, on the basis that it's easy to delete, rather than find a post later. If anyone thinks anything should be deleted, no offence will be taken :D;)

Some indexes that might be useful are:

Can I freeze............ (as a subset of the Freezer index, as there are so many threads that start like this)

Collected recipes, tips and wisdom of Queenie (people often ask for things by her)

Christmas (for threads before the new board was started. Alternatively, might these threads be moved?)

Someone asked about Freecycle and I've seen several about hens (my special interest :j ) Do we need indexes for these, or are they better on G&E?

    HTH, Penny. x

Edit - Churchmouse, that's so kind of you! It's a pleasure!

The Christmas ones can often be a bit of a mixed bag as to whether they are OS or Celebrations to be honest :) If you see any of particular interest then maybe flag it to your delightful BG's to ask if they feel it's best suited for OS or Celebrations?

OS BGs feel free to send me packing back to my own boards ;)

BTW Squeaky intend on reading your indexing guide from start to finish tonight and if possible steal it now it's done :rotfl: I'll ensure all credits go to me and blame goes to you heehee (now where is that "blow a rasberry" smilie?)

  • Hi - I'm doing 'books' & i think i will include magazines too.

I anticipate there will be a lot of cross over with other indexes - I’ve had a quick look through & am definitely going to do these headed sections under books:

    Frugal Living
    Cooking/Recipes
    Wild Food/Foraging
    Animal Husbandry
    Arts & Crafts
    Magazines
    Buying Books

& there may be some more .

 I’m thinking it will be easier for those doing similar indexes to put a link to books & the relevant heading in your sections to save us duplicating work  .

If anyone wants to do this the other way around pm me!

I’ve not started my index post yet, but will do so in the couple of days.

I've been doing that too. My index is 'buying organic', but I've been adding the links to do with local and seasonal food too, since they're probably not big enough to have indexes of their own. And, as you say, they're easier to delete or copy into another index rather than having to find them again later.

I'm actually quite enjoying this. I've started right from the beginning of the Old Style board and it's lovely to see things like the first ever grocery challenge and PIN money challenge, Squeaky being instated as board guide, my own first post here back in early 2005, and just the general way the board has changed and evolved. :)

Plus, I'm learning all sorts of things I missed the first time around, and seeing ideas I liked but had forgotten.

Thanks squeaky and RacyRed for your kind comments. Like many others ( I expect!) I tend to think that anything I'm good at must be dead easy and anyone could do it:rotfl: Anything I'm useless at must be VERY difficult! I've reflected on and off today and decided I'm quite good at a variety of things and am now definitely walking an inch taller:D So thanks for the ego boost:D :D
And squeaky, I LOVE a man who knows his place - in the wrong:rotfl: :rotfl: :kisses3:

  • Im sure i read somewhere with all this someone was doing a keeping chickens thread. Am I going mad?

I was just thinking it might be wise to put a link from the Pets section if someone was doing it, otherwise i can amalgamate it in that one!

    Anyone please!!!

    Hi aimeelister,

I thought I'd seen that too, but I can't find it now.

I'm planning to post later today with links to all the collections that have been started, so if I come across it I'll let you know.

Would you mind linking to any keeping chicken threads in your collection in the meantime?

    Thanks,

    Pink
