I think Risca Extra department Manager of electrical/direct/phones will get a surprise one day if that's his attitude. He clearly has no clue what the Sales of Goods Act says (should store managers not get some sort of training?!), i.e. goods "must be fit for purpose". If I have attempted to adjust it in normal use and it's snapped, it is not fit for purpose - and I am legally entitled to a refund/replacement. I can fully appreciate why you might not want to replace items someone has intentionally snapped in half or damaged, or even unintentionally dropped on the floor and broken - but goods should be able to withstand normal use. What a shocking attitude from a manager within a major national retailer.
Not like I'm arguing, wasting my time, or going to court over £2.20, but still somewhat annoyed at the blatant ignorance of what is basic consumer law which has been around longer than I've been alive. Had it been the full price of around £20 then I would have considered it.
I suspect it must have been a manufacturing defect as looking at the thickness of the plastic, I doubt it should have snapped as it did.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -
anyone know if there are any bargains in prescot, st helens or deysbrook
Nothing in prescot or sthelens, apart from prescot had a few small 60p barbie items, all the stuff that was cheap scanned at full sel price yesterdayThe art of being happy is to be satisfied with what you have0 -
Feel like I'm the only bargain-hunter in H*ll LOL. Not seen any finds from anyone else in my area nor seen any fellow shifty oops I mean thrifty shoppers. The staff in there think I'm a weirdo and I'm beginning to feel ashamed to show my face.
Today got a Tom Tom each (me & my mum). Was a bit fed up cos I waited for about 2 hrs for my mum to turn up with her Tom Tom £20 off voucher and the staff would not let us use it. Said it was only for brand new stock which is fair enough except I have seen more than once on this thread that folks have used theirs. As I posted earlier there were a few sat navs they were feeding into the clearance cabinet. The manager was great - he alerted me to them and gave me first choice so no complaints there - he's a great guy. Wish he'd been that forthcoming with the laptops though - ah well.
I have become a woman possessed so tomorrow I am getting on with packing as I move in 2 weeks. Thanks Mr T's for some great bits n bobs for my new home (and Argos). My garden is going to be gorgeous with wicker planters, solar lights and a superb barbie if the weather holds on.
I asked an employee why all these bargains were happening and he said they did not sell off old stock so it piles up in store some stores more than others because they have been open a few years - but now it's getting cleared out. No problem - I'm willing to take it off their hands0 -

I beg to differ then. I certainly do begrudge any member of staff witholding stock before it goes on sale to the public. It is not right or ethical in my opinion and I'm sure there is something about this in their Employment T&C's?. It certainly was the case when I worked there.
All stock whether it be in the sale or not is there to be sold to customers of Tesco and should not be stashed away in the stockroom by some selfish staff member until they finish their shift.
Managers should clamp down on this and disciplinary action taken where appropiate.0 -

The real greed is clearly demonstrated by the minority of people on here who buy things they don't need and clear the shelves to prevent anyone else getting a look in. It is then being offered as a 'spare' to swap, all done in the guise of 'helping others'. sorry, but it's helping yourselves and if these things were left on the shelf in the first place perhaps those that need or want them would find them when they went to look.
Not a popular opinion, I know but don't post about greedy staff on a forum where greed is present in abundance.

it seems pretty clear there's been bad behaviour from some staff as well as some customers. I don't see why staff shouldn't benefit to some extent from bargains, but within reason. Perhaps a percentage of the high value items should have been kept back and offered to staff via lottery with the rest going out onto the shop floor and unavailable to staff?
I'm sure there are a few genuine people who bought a bargain they would use, but would prefer to swap it for something more useful if the opportunity were there, so I don't think all swappers are greedy.
This thread has certainly been an eye-opener for me and I am disgusted and saddened by the attitudes and behaviour of some people.
I shall definitely be thinking very, very hard next time this sort of grabbit arises because with so many people looking after number one, to varying extents, I'm thinking the few kind, generous people who genuinely want to help are increasingly losing out, with fewer and fewer people being thoughtful or even grateful. I'd like to believe what goes around, comes around but I'm growing less and less sure about that with time.
It's funny how this is a "community" to some people when they want others to share information or bargains, but it becomes a "dog eat dog" world when it suits them.

The odd thing to swap I can understand too. As I said, it is the minority that are giving mser's a bad name. I am getting to a point where I prefer HUKD as people are honest about their profiteering. This is something i have noticed more and more over the last few months, so fairly recently really and I hope it is a temporary glitch.
Why is there no sale/trade forum on mse to free up threads for posting genuine finds and provide a little buyer/seller protection?0 -
