It's a fail according to the book

    "inadequately repaired"

"deterioration of a rubber, synthetic bush or mounting resulting in excessive movement"

the motman obviously isnt time served though because as an ex mechanic he would know the repair was unsatisfactory
this is the problem we are putting men in jobs they dont comprehend, can you imagine a modern motman from school jack knowing that a ha viva has lots of play in its bottom balljoint as standard

If it's tight then the second point you mention doesn't apply.

If it holds everything secure then the repair is adequate. Besides "inadequate repair" says to refer to Appendix C which then talks about corrosion, not about substituting potentially inappropriate parts.

    That's just this site.

It looks like we agree (mostly) across the sites it's not right, even though it's passed.

Personally I'd look at putting the bushes in where they should be, and using a decent sized nut and bolt to replace the stud that's rotted away.

edit - take Hito's comment for argueing,
deterioration to the point it's dropped off, and he'll still argue it's ok as it doesn't say missing specifically.

trust me that should be a fail but in todays watered down world of nobody cares anymore, he probably gets away with it because he doesnt do enough testing to stick his head over the parapet
worst thing is you cannot get details of specific garages on freedom of information so he falls under the radar
i have no axe to grind with the guy but i reiterate he needs to go on a refresher course
