my hubby took his sportrak in for its m.o.t. today.
and it failed on, i'm quoting the m.o.t. fail sheet here ( nearside front lower (drop link bar) anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a pin/bush)
the place he took it to doesn't do repairs, and we would like to buy the parts ourself to save money, but we don't know what we need to ask for, could someone translate the m.o.t. paper into idiot proof english please?

Depending on the car you you might need to replace the droplinks or you might be able to get the bushes separately. Droplinks are pretty cheap though. I think I paid 30 quid for fancy uprated ones for my old Subaru, and I didn't have to faff about removing old bushes, probably cost you more in labour than you'll save in parts.
If you dont mind lying on your back under the car, they're pretty easy to fit yourself.
I'd do the offside one as well as the nearside since chances are it will be failing soon as well.
It's also worth getting the alignment checked after getting them changed as this is a suspension part.0 -
If you don't understand that are you capable of the repair?0

Absolutely
Buy a Haynes manual for your specific car, and make certain you understand it before touching anything so vital as your steering. Otherwise a failed MOT could be the least of your problems:eek:We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0 -

Thats a really minor fail for a Sportrak. Get the bushes done quick and retested before they think of finding something else!0

is this what he neans? we've looked under the car and found this that is loose

Check the other side to be sure but that looks like the nut & bolt that holds the whole thing together has come loose so if you are lucky it might just need tightening up0

yes it needs tightening, we just want to be sure that we are looking at the right part.Check the other side to be sure but that looks like the nut & bolt that holds the whole thing together has come loose so if you are lucky it might just need tightening up
we are happy that this was the only fail on a 20 year old car that gets used off road quite often0 -
Yup, that's a droplink allright.
Also your MOT tester is a douche. Any MOT I've taken a car too, little things like that they just tighten up as they go around, hence why I thought it was actually worn.0
