(im in the trade so be careful with smartypant answers just like lum and his douche which i find deeply disrespectful)

Maybe jobsworth would have been a better term then?

Since we now know that, in this tester's opinion, the only difference between a pass and a fail was tightening up that nut. Something that's really easy to do when the car is up on a lift and you're already standing under it.

Not just tightening the damn thing up, thus sending the OP off to need to make this thread and pay someone else to do it, or possibly end up lying under their car at the side of the road to do it themselves, is petty and mean.
  • I've no doubt the car passed legit after it was tightened, but if it was mine, I'd still want to fix it correctly.

The poly bushes s b linked to early on in the thread would be ideal. Harder ride but last forever.

you dont get it and ive been really really laid back on this
if the mot man tightened that erroneous nut and bolt and it sheared (because it looks at the end of its thread irrespective of the fact it is now said another garage on the industrial estate did indeed tighten it)
there would now be a thread entitled mot man damaged my car what compensation can i get this car was perfect before he touched it

im really getting bored now explaining the anti roll bar cannot perform its function as shown in the photograph and if you look at the crushed bush and think this is acceptable then i can only despair that the powers that be want to stop home mechanics tinkering because we have obviously come to the stage i agree with the government

If it's at risk of breaking like that, my MOT guy would likely ask if I wanted him to have a go anyway or if I wanted him to fail it so I could take it elsewhere.

I guess it's just a cultural difference since I wouldn't hold him responsible for it breaking if that was what happened. It would have broke no matter who tried to tighten it.

You'd be surprised at what can pass.

My favourite example is you can, technically, pass with broken windscreen washers if you have a bottle of Windolene in the door pocket, though it helps to mark it with the washer symbol.

Back in the day, I liked Nissan Bluebirds and spares avaliability was poor at best.

Failed on 2 bottom ball joints, could only get one. Old guy hammered the bottom of the other ball joint to tighten it again and get the pass.

Scotsman: Was this the MOT tester or someone else?

Also, from the other two threads it would appear that bolt is a droplink, or rather the actual droplink has been replaced with a bolt that is serving the same purpose.
