I've received a text message today, and normally I would just ignore spam texts - but this one surprised me as it had my first and last name.

However, as far as I'm aware I have no bad debt, or any outstanding credit. I've lived at the same address for the last eighteen years so if anyone wanted to contact me legitimately I'm not exactly hard to find.

    So I've just deleted it.....
  • Just came across this thread and wondered if anyone would be able to pass on any advice re Capquest to me...

I have 2 debts I am paying to Capquest. One is an old phone bill and one is an overdraft on an old bank account. I've been paying these for about 4 years now, however on checking my credit report, there is no mention on there of Capquest. One of the debts in question is on there but is marked as settled, one is active but doesn't show any payments.

I've spoken to them about this on the phone a while back but was just told this is correct. I asked for statements but I never receive any post from them.

Has anyone had any similar dealings?
  • Hi I have had a few letters from cap quest. Now I don't dispute the debt, it from my little woods account. However after reading through this forum I am loathe to deal with them. Anyone have any experiences of dealing with them by email or would anyone suggest this as a way to go
  • I owed over £900 on a catalogue due to job loss etc I fell behind with payments, the catalogue refused to agree a payment plan and transferred my debt to cap quest they then phoned me and I agreed to pay £30 per month this was in May 2011 and I did not hear a single word in the 2.5 years that I was paying, I stopped my payments in January 2014 and since have had them on the phone. I asked them to send me out a statement. They sent out a letter today stating that if I start paying my £30 again they will also pay 30% which is a further £9 I have calculated that I have paid £960 plus there £288 totals £1248 there letter states that I still owe £1600 is the correct I am very angry and feel that I have more than paid my debt, I might add that nowhere in their letter does it state how long I need to pay this £30 for - does anybody have any advice as they state I have until 20th march to contact them which I might add they want me to phone - I written another letter asking them that I want everything in writing and i want them for a breakdown of payments - please help any advice would be great

You need to send them a complaint, stating the points above and that you believe the account is repaid. In writing obviously. Also demand a statement of account showing payments and any additions to the account, as entitled under OFT debt collection guidelines.

Maybe they are still adding interest?

When did you take out the original catalogue debt? Most taken out before April 2007 has major issues with the credit agreement, if they even existed, that naked the debt unenforceable.

  • Hello. Was hoping to get some advice on here. I've had 2 missed calls from these people, each with a recorded voicemail asking me to ring a number. I don't exactly want to speak to these people, from what I've heard, they're horrible. I have 2 'debts' but I am paying at least the minimum amount each month and have never missed a pay date. So am I actually in debt and will these people take action? Like I said, I AM paying it off each month.

    Have they written to you?

Wrote to them asking what they want and to only contact you in writing or you will be submitting a complaint.

Or are you saying you don't have debts with Capquest? In which case ignore until they write then send the prove it letter.

  • Nope, only had 2 missed calls, 3 days apart. I... don't think I have debts with them... all I have is; one is an Argos card and another is a Halifax credit card which I'm paying both, every month.

I have not received letters from those, telling me I need to pay the whole thing up. From what I can tell, they seem ok with my monthly payments.

In that case ignore them until they write to you. If your payments are up to date, its not those accounts.

either a case of mistaken person they are looking for or its an old thing you forgot about. These companies are known to just try anyone with a similar/same name in the hope someone pays.

In any case, never ring companies like these, do everything in writing.

  • Answer the phone, don't confirm who you are, don't answer their security questions and simply state they should put their request in writing.

Once they write to you you can deal with it. Don't go writing to them before they tell you what it is about.

And don't be scared to pick up the phone when they call. Honestly, the constant missed calls will be a bigger stress than actually answering the call and taking control by not confirming your name, or answering their questions. You'll feel empowered, believe me.

I've had to deal with Capquest in the past and they are toothless, just like all DCA's.
