Oh gawd, I am sorry to have started such a debate, I did not mean in anyway that all nurses are the same, my dear old dad has had some excellent care, and some not so excellent, I do appreciate the work that all nurses do, and I know that there is a lot of paper shuffling now a days.
I do take my hat off to all the nurses out there, its a very stressfull job,and not one that I think I could do
I have had a few tears reading the poems, I always want to tell people how my dad was when he was a younger man, very tall, handsome, and extremely intellegent, I remember as a child that I used to pretend to be asleep in the back of the car, so he would carry me in, I used to love it when he would gently carry me up to bed and tuck me in.
Breaks my heart to see him as he is now, but he is still my big strong dad to me.

Evening all
Sorry I've been awol for a few days - haven't had a chance to catch up with all the posts so ((hugs)) to anyone in need.
Returning to work after a week off is always a bit of a nightmare but this week has been a little challenging to say the least!
Not much OS going on at all, sadly - unless you count meals made from scratch (but I've always done that anyway!).
It's looking likely to be an expensive week as DH's car needs new brakes, battery and alternator  and is booked into the garage tomorrow - gulp!
We can't really manage without both cars as we live in a rural area with inadequate public transport, and each work 15-20 miles away from home, in opposite directions, and with different working hours... I would love for us to have jobs within walking distance but at the moment we both feel we ought to sit tight and just be grateful for employment anywhere.
Hope you've all had good days

Monnagran sorry for your loss and the bad feelings
RedRuby I would love to look after your Dad, sorry things are so bad and big hugs for you and yours.
WMF thanks for both the reply and the nurses prayer, I can identify with all of it.
Have the giant dog here for his sleepover. Dinner was left-over spag bog. Have been pottering around the garden. All the washing has dried on the line. Have defrosted the freezer and done an inventory. Had a really good phone call from ExOH today, he is taking early retirement from nursing and taking a part-time lecturers job he's been offered. This means I can take a full-time job and should be able to pay off my debts and get some savings behind me. Have also had a phone call from the agency and I am now clear to work, so onwards and upwards. I feel I'm crawling out of a darkplace and my life will get a lot easier. However will still be OS.
I also am quite strange as I love autumn, the colder it gets the harder I work. Anyhow am rambling, must be the red wine and lack of sleep
Have a good night all and big hugs to all who need one

Ive been nursing for 26 years and it was my choice to work with the elderly when I qualified, because the stories and experiences they shared always fascinated me. I suppose its very slightly different as I work in mental health, but usually the patients have physical issues too. I have recently returned to working in a dementia admission unit, and the challenges of working out when people are in pain etc when they can't communicate their needs is not only second nature but heart warming-figure it out, help them and see them settled and functioning. Try to explain that to some of todays students and they look at me like I have 20 heads, had a student today tell me she is training to be a ward sister, she didn't really get that she needs to be a nurse first:eek: One of my biggest regrets is going up the ladder and not staying a staff nurse and having more time to spend with the patients, I hate the culture of audits, paperwork and guff, starting every day with volumes of e-mails about irrelevances, and some days I dream of the simpler days of the 80's when the important things were always the patients!
Anyways moan over, just worked 5th 12 hour shift in 6 days, having a glass of vino and will sleep like a log or else! Tomorrow will be washing day as DD is back from holiday, and will eat a dinner for first time this week!RIP Iain

Hi ladies, yes I am in touch with Lou.actually we exchange about 50or 60 texts a day
She is not doing great, her bipolar has dipped into a severe depression, and sadly its the same old story that the mental health care available in this country is barely fit for purpose.Thats all I really will say here, to respect Lou's privacy, but she knows you are thinking about her, and I am sure that somewhere in there, its making a difference. The friend she has been staying with has been a huge support to her, and been taking good care of Lou and the wee fella, and visiting Alan, too.
My OH is home for.the weekend tomorrow night.so I am a busy bee cleaning, etc.
Redruby, what you said on the previous page about yourdad brought a tear to my eye. Thinming of you all. When I was at uni, I volunteered in a home for the elderly, and spent, most of my time in the dementiaunit. It was very sad to see how those peoples' lives had turned out, but I always felt that I could see who they had been, somewherd in their eyes. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0
