Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 1st September.
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning All
Pinch punch first day of the month.
Had a bad night so I have been up for ages, just grabbing a few minutes before I call DH.
Went over to Sports Direct in Bletchley last night and kitted out DS with some kerrimore toe tectors for college reduced to £22 a bargain for someone with size 12 feet  at 17 years old. We also got him some airwalkers and some loafers and I got a few Christmas pressies in there as well.
Well I had best call his nibs and make him a cuppa
Will pop back later so BFN xBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Good Morning Butterfly Brain and all who follow x
I was also up early but slept through so feeling quite rested this morning:T
I am planning a quietish day as cleaner coming today. DD is more settled now and has a Plan C so hope it works out for her. She has had the stuffing knocked out of her and is still gutted that she didn't get into university.
Jackie G - hope your BIL is a little stronger x
Redruby - hugs to you and your family xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all
Well yesterday I saw 6 magpies all together, so I sat in all day waiting for a pot of gold to arrive, unfortunately, it didn't, still Hubby won £4 on the euromillions, so that will have to do.
DW's on WM about to go on, fish fed & packups made.
Plans for today include slicing up the joint of beef I bought & cooked yesterday, I shall freeze it down in portions with some gravy. Listing some wool on Ebay & listing a few more books on Amazon.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Firstly hugs to those who need (or just want) one JG hope your BIL is improving.
Well off work till Monday now, am going across to Manchester today to see my sister who is over from Ireland for a couple of weeks, so it will be nice to catch up with her and my nieces, might stop over depends, on what her plans are. If not, tomorrow I intend treating myself to a mooch around the shops, dont often have time to do that and then on Saturday am going to a concert with my brother (Classical Fantasia, held in a 11 century abbey in Leeds, great music and the fireworks are amazing), we go every year and it is one of the things I look forward to doing, so looking forward to a nice few days.
Housework is up to date, wm just finished so I will hang that out now, bright here but a real chill in the air - feels very "back to school" weather:D
Hope you all have good days whatever you are doing
x"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to........"Dieting ........... is no piece of cake!!!!:D

Morning all! I have my internet back!!
Thank you for your kind thoughts all, it's so much appreciated.
Just having a cuppa before work, not been up to much, I did a food shop last night (the first in about a month) £135!! I was over charged £17.99 however, so need to arrange a refund. Hopefully we don't need to do another shop this month, except for fresh bits. I did mostly stick to my list but got a few extra treats. picked up some cheap cuts like beef shin for our sunday dinner.
I've been making myself a list of daily tasks to keep the house in order and it seems to be working, today i've got some clothes to put away, the kitchen to give a once over, clean the bathroom and put a wash out on the line.
It's getting nippy!! I love winter so i'm pleasedgot soup making on the books for the weekend!
Lunch today is some fruit and some noodles out the store cupboard, OH is having steak for dinner i think i will have chicken kiev.
have a lovely day all, I will catch up on the threads i have missed later xAnnual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Morning all,
I am off to Skegness for the day today with DD1 and DD2 and a couple of their friends. (DS doesn't want to come- how can you outgrow Skeg?!).
WM is on and will hang out a load before I go, it may dry.
Tea tonight is fish and chips on the beach but OH and DS will be more OS as they are having HM meatballs from the freezer.
Right, off to make the packed lunches.
Hugs to all that need them especially Lou and NPM
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Good Morning everyone, and a brand new month ahead of us.A slight autumn feel in the air today .When we were away last week we spotted conkers on the trees already ,admittedly small ones but seemed very early and some of the trees were already turning that beautiful golden colour.A bit of a worry as my late ma-in-law always said an early autumn means a cold winter, and she was the 'old wife' that all the tales were written about:)My children thought she had witchy powers as she had so many remedies for different ailments. But of course when her booys were growing up before the war few people could afford Drs so many had home medicines to treat themselves .My late OH never saw a Dr until he was called up to the RAF in 1951at 18 and was extremely healthy. In fact in the 40 odd years we were married I can't remember him ever having a cold or cough. His old Mums upbringing must have worked o.k.He adored 'dripping toast' especially on brown bread and said that it kept the colds away I could never eat it though so I seemed to get his share.:)
Well time to make breakfast I think and get some caffeine down my neck, have a good day whatever you may be doing
Cheers JackieO xx
p.s. I was walking past a young lady yesterday who had a small boy with her and she was berating him dreadfully
Mum 'I'm fed up to the back teeth with you and can't wait until monday when you go back to school'
Little boy 'I'm sorry Mum I didn't mean it '
Mum 'Thats it next summer you are going to summer school I can't be putting up with your noise for 6 week'
little boy started crying'No Mum I don't want to go there I like being with you'
Mum 'Well I don't like being with you ,you are just too wearing for me'
I know kids can be a handful at times but this little lad was about 6 and was very upset and I thought of my DD and her tribe and how she would love to be at home with them during the long summer holidays .Yesterday she had a day off as she had the dentists to go to for an extraction in the afternoon and in the morning she took the boys swimming thenout for a special treat for them which was a McDds(they don't normally have them as a rule)and when I was talking to her she said although she loves her job she wishes that she could be more with the boys .The only reason she can work full-time is because she knows I take care of them as she would and she would never threaten them with summer school .I felt quite sorry for this little boy and sad that his Mum doesn't realise what precious time she has with her son and how soon it will be gone and he will be grown up and off her hands.maybe she's not maternal I don't know but it just struck me how lucky I am to be able to look after the boys, and what great enjoyment we both get out of it.0 -
Morning my lovelies
roll on Autumn and WinterSorry it's not that I don't like summer, I do but I love [STRIKE]Christmas[/STRIKE] Winter months more. Just prefer being cosy and hibernating :rotfl:
So plan today is to finish putting away all of the stuff we took on holiday and change the kids beds. H is off so I shall leave him in charge of the washing mountain whilst me and the kids visit a friend this morning for her little boys birthday.
No idea what's for tea, have some bacon defrosting so might do a pasta bake, although DS declares he doesn't like pasta any more. Or cheese. Heaven only knows what this child will live on <rollseyes>
Anyway slept in as DS woke at 5.30am so I had better get a move on.
Hugs and spoons all round, especially NPM, hope you're feeling better lovey.
Hugs for Jackieg's BIL and Redruby and her dad xxx
Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all
Nights done for now, am so tired. Chilly last night and this morning. Have both kittys trying to sit on me this morning.
JACKIE O unfortunately I know a few mum's like that, ExOH and I have always shared the childcare between us, although it's really hard at times, DS really does appreciate my need for space at times.
Hope all is well, not read the thread. Big hugs to all who need one.
Off to bed in a mo, need to defrost the fridge when I get up. Also If it's dry I shall potter in my garden.
Have a good day all
