  • I was automatically put on Talktalk when they took over Tele2.
I had changed my name to my married name when with Tele2 but on switching to talktalk my broadband was under my maiden name and my landline under my married name. They can't put that right over the phone despite it not being my error. The landline stopped working over Xmas and it took 2 weeks to fix - allowing for Xmas I expected one week. My mobile bill this month is horrendous! I think they are improving - my broadband is upto a fluctuating 6Mb now but engineer repairs are disappointing. Their Website is a bit messy too but I again I think that is improving.
  • I have had a bad experience with TalkTalk. The setup was only sorted after asking to be put through to the Cancellations Department. Even an email to Charles Dunstone had failed. Ever since, have had irritating connection issues with pages being dropped and then loading on refresh. Did not bother me too much until I tried watching stuff on youtube. Also, wife couldn't work form home as kept getting logged out of the works system. Have checked the micro filters, use the master socket etc. Have spent some 2 hours on phone to support trying to fix. An email to Charles Dunstone meant someone called me!! and I'm trying to sort it through this route

Based on the poll at time of writing, you have a 50/50 chance of it working ok. Considering the value for money, I'd say try it. If you hit problems, you will get through quickly, if no joy, ask for cancellations and you'll get someone with a bit more ability!!

    Good Luck
  • I am new to this site but just wanted to add a comment about this topic that seems to be pretty popular with everyone.

What did you expect? In most cases you are getting free Broadband. Where have you ever recevied something free and been happy with everything about it.

If people want the BEST customer service, and BEST company, then pay for it. And leave the freebies to the people who expect the odd hitch along the way.
  • I was cold called by someone from Nector pushing Talk Talk to me. I asked lots of question about it as i knew it had bad press. Ask if the modem was free and was told it was but i'd be waiting 3 months before I'd be hooked up.

So i was paying Talk talk £20 and BT £16 a month so i could stay online. 3 months later i called talk talk to see what was happening only to be told the guy i spoke to had never put an order for the boadband in place and that i will have to pay £30 for the modem and wait over a month to get broadband.

Customer service at Talk talk told me that these guys will say anything for a sale so be warned. Now considering going back to BT for phone and internet.
  • I had horrendous problems with my TalkTalk broadband connection from the very beginning (Sept 06). The connection would be very hit & miss with no connection at all at peak times. In addition I was unable to access Ebay and some holiday booking sites I tried may times to get through to the helpdesk & gave up after waiting 30 mins +. I eventually emailed Clive Dunstone direct, explaining the problems and gave him 7 days to sort the problems out or I would go elsewhere. Mr Dunstone did reply and true to his word arranged for someone to contact me regarding solving my problems. It took nearly a whole week and a number of calls between myself and a technical expert but I'm pleased to say my internet connection is now working much better. I would suggest everyone encountering problems emails Mr Dunstone - perhaps he'll then get a tru picture of peoples woes !!!

    Good luck
  • they forged my OH's signature and cost us a fortune beware this company is a nightmare!!

I gave up waiting for talktalk broadband after 3 months. The call centre calls were infuriating as they couldn't tell me what the problem was, just said it would be sorted in 10 to 15 days. It never was. Every time I called back I got a different story, and they never answered emails except by automated response. Cancelling the order and moving back to BT was the best decision I ever made.

One word for TalkTalk - "Appalling", and thankfully no longer with them. After numerous problems and delays, and a few months, waiting for broadband I eventually told them to cancel it. They then threatened me with a £70 disconnection charge but after putting them straight about there appalling level of service (including customer service) and the fact that although they say the contract is for the phone line (not the broadband) I only signed up as I expected to get free broadband as part of the whole package and would never have signed up if the braodband was not included, they did not charge the £70. Not that they would have got it anyway !

To everyone who is thinking of joining TalkTalk - "AVOID !!!"
Started the new centuary £18,000 in debt : July 2008 we're now DEBT FREE (apart from the mortgage!) :j
2011 Update: Taken a car on finance - first serious credit commitment in a long time but as were more financially secure than in the past it was a calculated risk - 4 years and counting ! :)
  • I couldn't agree more with last message! Talk Talk is horrendous to deal with - I found it very stressful and woukld certinly NOT recommend them to anyone! Like prev. message I was promosed Broadband and then found out I would have to pay extra to that agreed when they signed me up!!!!

Does anyone know of a phone company who is good value and has Brits on the other end of phoneline?
Martin - how about a site that lists only companies with UK employees - very pertinent with the news of Bristol workers (Capita) striking for their jobs - I am sure there are many of us wold would support such a site....... ::j
  • I applied for Talk Talk Broadband last April and I must admit I was very close to cancelling my order when I still hadn't been connected by the end of October. Fortunately I still had internet access so I was able to bide my time. I have now been connected and although the connection speed was quoted as 8meg my connection is only achieving a best speed of 2meg which for my use is fine but if you are a serious gamer may be an issue. So to summarise I believe they over stretched themselves initially but are slowly improving customer service but as always I will be keeping an eye on what their competitors are offering and will not hesitate to change again should a better value package appear
