hello and welcome to diaryland Fuzzybear

It's always hard at the beginning... and if you are anything like me things will come along to try and trip you up at the beginning of your journey... and you'll wonder whether it is doable and even worth it. However... having those CC on 0% interest will make such a difference to you - I am so pleased for you. I used to have debts on your kind of APRs and had never considered balance transferring until I read Martin's book. That saved me thousands of pounds in interest practically overnight... Then there were all his other ideas for money makeovers like quidco, moving insurance, electricity, gas, phone, cutting the food bill etc... It changed my life

3 years on - I still have one card with debt on but I have enough in a savings account to pay it off... I haven't yet as I am currently off sick and on half pay and am not sure when I will go back as I am recovering after an operation.... I hope once I am back at work properly that we will be in a position to pay off the debt, save and pay things in full from savings... It will be a lovely feeling

  • Hi Fuzzybear, just found your diary and felt compelled to post!!

Well done on the 0% cards :T, just make sure you cancel the old cards so to remove tempation.

Re the shopping I do one big shop and then little top up shops but im imagining with 2 teenagers in the house (and their friends) stocks would be quickly depleted! My girls are only little so can successfully hide extra biscuits crisps etc.

    Good luck xxx

  • Thank you Savingholmes - it helps hearing for someone who has managed to stick at it - gives me the encouragement that I can do this. I will need to remember that if obstacles appear on the path to debtfreeness.

I hope you recover soon and can get rid of that last bit of debt. That will be an amazing feeling :j I am feeling quite excited for you. Am beginning to see why so many people are on this forum - it makes you feel so much better and positive. Oooh think I am becoming a proper MSE convert ;)

Hi Mummytogirls - You are right about the food - DS can sniff it out at 200 yards - not that my house is that big! In fact kitchen is about 6' square so not a lot of hiding places. At 13 he is same height as me 5'7" and no doubt will start hiding things out of my reach! Mind you they will probably be things I am better off not finding ;)

My kids know all my hiding places - better than OH lol. My DS is now taller than me... so tricky... I've even hid crisps high up in the garage before now - in plain sight but hard to spot lol

  • Camouflaged crisps in the garage - the lengths we go to ;)

I have now identified a shelf in the fridge and a large plastic container as 'no go areas' - everything else is fair game - within reason. After yesterday the kids know to leave some milk for my morning cuppa!

Mr A delivery came and was overcharged a few things  Including branded tinned tomatoes which I only buy on offer (but they are better) I had been charged £1.23 each instead of 50p and I had ordered 4! Never had problems like that before but do always check my order - anyway without fuss £5.98 being credited to my account which is £1.12 more than the overcharge but I won't complain ;)

As I placed the order yesterday and haven't bought anything today can I count today as a NSD?? That's the next thing I am going to do set myself an NSD target per month. Step by step I will change my ways

  • I hope you managed to get a free delivery out of MrA Fuzzy! I always complain that much I get a refund and a free delivery :rotfl:!!

Loving the camoflaged (spelling?!) crisps :rotfl: xx

  • Was going to say it's obvious I am still a Newbie at this as didn't get a free delivery (must try harder ;)) but just realised I am officially now an MSE convert :T
