Buying things without looking / knowing the price!! It's even worse when I'm paying!!!
Example 1: Weekly shopping at ASDA. We were buying things for our new flat, so was expecting to pay a lot - I'd picked an Iron, Ironing board etc. Checked the reciept when I got home....most expensive item wasn't any of the big purchases we made, but £18 on "Shaving". 4 razor blades for £18....insanity.
Example 2: Not checking the promotions. We drink different milks, so we get one each. She didnt see the 2 for £2 offer, so we had mine for £1.25, and hers for 86p. I saved 11p by actually going back and getting the bigger carton - ridiculous argument!0 -
spending all his money and not knowing where it has gone!
He does keep all his recipts so not 100% sure why he doesnt know what he has spent and where!!
I've even done him a spreadsheet to keep track - he's FINALLY getting the hang of it!0 -
"But it's only a few quid..."
With absolutely NO comprehension of how a "few quid" here and a "few quid" there soon results in the money running out wa-a-a-a-a-ay before payday.0 -

Normal in our house... He comes home with a pack of burgers for tea (and I know they cost £2.98) and there is a massive red sticker 'buy any 2 for £4'.
I ask "did you pick up another one?"
"No, why?" He didn't even see the sticker!!!!:mad:0 -
You know what, my husband completely refuses to pay to park - ANYWHERE - If and when we go anywhere he will park half a mile away & walk! Or he finds a side road where you are allowed 1 hour to park and says "well thats all we need" I said to him - you would rather line the governments pockets by wasting fuel looking for a space or giving the local council £1.50!! Shocking, very annoying & to the point of deciding never to go out with him again & i'm not joking
Any marriage guidance councellors here?0 -
He asks 'Have we got any money in the bank for such and such?'
we have separate accounts, he's referring to mine, the one that the money fairy's fill up weekly.
He also loses his wallet ALL THE TIME and 9/10 times he's forgotten to put my card back in my purse so after he's taken cash out and spent it on x and x I have zero cash until we find it again.Little Person Number 4 Due March 2012

I remember that hubby was talked into taking out an M&S credit card to buy his wedding suit. The suit cost around £200, but he then proceeded to pay only the minimum amount each month on the card - so it took him years to pay off, and cost him MUCH more than the original £200. I remember finding the letters, about 3 years after we'd been married - and asking him why on earth he was still paying for the wedding suit when he could easily have paid off the whole amount within a few months of the wedding.
I think he did the same thing a number of years previously when buying himself a new bike. 5 years later the debt was still knocking about, with only half of it paid off.

*Sigh* I shouldn't complain, because he thinks he's being really nice to me but......
Ordering stuff from Hotel Chocolat online and paying stooooopid postage costs to have it delivered to the house the following day. He likes to get me nice things, as I'm disabled and semi-housebound, but he could take me into town, which we can do if he's there to push the wheelchair, buy the stuff in the HC shop, and save all that postage!
The last time, it was "But you're out of the nice drinking chocolate, and we can't go into town til next week" (we go in on the days he works from home, which are not a regular pattern).
He doesn't get that I can easily go without, and as it's me that does the finances, it mucks up my spreadsheet if he's spent something on his CC and not told me.:o
Bless him, he is lovely though, and I wouldn't change him for the world apart from making him a tad more money-savvy.:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I can't believe how many people on here seem to be married/living with/partnered to seemingly the same man as me!!
My OH also doesn't open his financial mail, has no idea how much is in his bank account or what bills are due out, has no idea how much is in our joint account or how much we pay out (I just tell him how much he needs to deposit in the account!) and he is frequently spending a few quid here and there because "it's only money". That is a VERY common expression in our house and it exasperates me so much to have to reply "yes but we need money to live and to eat etc etc". Another common expression is the "it's only a few quid", not comprehending that a few quid here and there adds up!! Oh, he also has absolutely no idea how much he spends on a daily/weekly basis.
I think he's slowly coming round to the idea that he needs to start looking after his finances, but after a bit of a debacle this week with a missed CC payment I have finally decided to put my foot down and get him sorted! First thing I'm going to suggest: let me open his financial mail and keep an eye on his finances!!
So glad so many other people are in the same position as me - I thought I was the only one who felt like they were banging their head against a brick wall
