Just generally being hopeless with money!
When he got divorced from his ex wife, he brought with him a load of debts/loans/c/card debt which she had effectively racked up and stitched him up with.
He claims he just 'wanted out quickly'. His £30k from the sale of their house vanished in a matter of months, rather than paying off his debts etc, he rented an expensive flat he couldn't afford and had a good old time spending the money
i have paid off the majority of the debt myself, with just one last loan to go.
I cannot express how much it hurts paying off someone else's ex wife's debts from my hard earned savings!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Mh H2B took out abig loan well before we met. 6 years later he's still paying it off and yet has nothing to show what he spent the money on!:(
It drives me crazy as I have always saved and been careful with my money and yet he doesn't quite get it!
I've put my foot down after he told me last financial year he earned 10k in overtime. I pointed out if he had put it to one side he could have paid off his loan! So now he is putting all his overtime to one side to try and pay it off before we get married.
He's quite surprised that so far he's got 4k. :j

OH feeling peckish and eating the ham out of the fridge.
I say oh well theres your sandwhiches and a fiver gone. He says bl**dy hell a fiver. He has no concept of what anything costs, moans when he finds out but continues to eat a pack of ham.:rotfl:
The other thing he does is to tell people he never spends much on clothes, only a odd shirt. But never says i spend about £350 a year on work clothes for him. and also buy all his under wear, jeans and shoes etc.
Heard him telling a mate that £100 per year clothes budget should be adequate. lol:rotfl:0 -
I'd love to see what he would say about me! "Wasting money on a hair cut only to complain about it for months on end and vowing never to visit a hairdresser again!" QUOTE]
My H2B threw this one at me the other day when we had a 'heated' discussion about money!
It went something like
Him: But I've not spent anything on ME for ages, yet you've bought lots of clothes and spend a fortune on your hair!
Me: Yes but all my new clothes were bought off ebay using money earn't selling my old clothes. My hair is the only thing I spend a lot of money on . .
I had to stop there as I nearly added . .
I earn a lot more than you, have my own house, a lot of money saved up wheras you have a huge loan you've been paying off for years and still have 10k to pay off! Don't lecture me about money!
But of course I didn't but felt so much better for screaming to myself! :rotfl:
Saying that after being with me for 3.5 years his attitude to money has greatly improved!
Although he hasn't a clue when it comes to our household finances as he said we must have quite a bit saved up now in our joint account. Err no our outgoings are £1600 and we put in £1650! He just doesn't have a clue!Turning our clutter to top up our house deposit: £3000/£303.05 we're on our way!0 -
My hubby has no money! I leave £100 in his bank incase of an emergency but I have control over all of our income (we both like it this way, if I didn't bills would never get paid!) He doesn't ask for much but unfortunatly his regulary buys are tabacco and alcohol.

Currently strugging with this one too! :mad:0 -
My hubby of one year is lovely - had some bad money habits (dropping cash everywhere as is literally falls out of his pocket and can't be bothered to pick it up, never knowing his bank balance, never opening/dealing with financial mail) but he's got a LOT better over the last year.
That said... we nearly had an argument the other day over overdrafts. He just doesn't understand them - he keeps going over his OD limit and for some reason he thinks that if you cancel or reduce your OD limit with the bank, he won't get charged anymore. I've tried explaining that if you make your OD smaller without paying off the OD you're going to be charged *more* and OD's only cost if you have a negative account balance. I stilll don't think he get's it, but at least he's agreed not to reduce his limit without paying it off.
I wish we had finance ed at school (I'm 28 and he's 26 btw)... then maybe all this would be less confusing!0 -

Had to laugh when i read this! I said the samething last night only it was about cornbeef not ham...I mean seriously, i'm sick of telling him about how expensive cornbeef is now! :rotfl:
In our house i'm responsible for all the bills which to be honest is becoming a huge strain on me. My hubby just burries his head in the sand and leaves it to me. I'm sure he thinks i can just magic money out of somewhere!Slimming World Challenge 2017 0/30.5lb

Wow. Surprised that it seems that 90% of the useless ones with money are the men !!!
Its other way around with us. Wife hasnt got a clue....0 -
My OH impulse buys when she sees something she wants/needs.
I always research and find the best way of buying things I want/need (cashback site/credit card, online or high-street, buy with vouchers, money off codes, etc...).
This reflects our different personalities, she is quite impatient whereas I like to have time to think, plan and research a purchase.
I love her to bits but sometimes I have to bite my tongue or I would be sending her to the naughty step!!!
