I use to do this for years, never got cought :D

I ALWAYS buy Tesco's own loo roll.

Last week they were out of stock, but Andrex was on offer, so worked out a reasonable buy. I unpacked the rolls onto the shelf, alongside a couple of Tesco's ones left from the last pack. Even I can't tell any difference between them, and I know that some of them are allegedly 'better' than the others.

Anyone who hasn't taken the downshift challenge is seriously missing an opportunity!

I refuse to buy expensive bog roll, I always buy the very cheapest, DH complains but I just tell him I refuse to spend much money on something that I wipe my a**e with and if he didnt like it then maybe he shouldn't s**t so much. He soon shuts up.

My DH is terrible at wasting "little" amounts of money. He'll spend a fiver a day at work on lottery tickets, cups of horrid tea from the machine, along with overpriced chocolate bars and crisps and a sneaky Mcdonalds on the way home.

He works shifts so he has been at home during the day with DS. Because he can't be bothered to cook beans on toast for lunch, he will order a pizza then tell me that it was a "treat for DS, as he's on holiday", so when I get home, I have to eat a sandwich because we can't afford to get any proper food in until payday.:mad:

He's much better than he used to be, but he sometimes just doesn't get it. If he has £20 left in his account before payday, he wouldn't dream of putting it away, he sees it as spending money so that's exactly what he'll do with it. Of course, when the car broke down and we had a huge repair bill, guess who had to pay for it out of her savings?:mad::mad:
(He has been quite contrite since then though and has promised to be a little more careful. We shall see!)
"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"
  • Reading all these reminds me of my ex who would moan about every supermarket entry on the bank statement - I used to shop little and often - and he'd say all month "Don't spend any money - we can't afford it" then go and buy computer games or other unnecessaries with the money I'd not spent. Worst one was when I got a tax rebate I'd been after for years - he moaned about me buying some furniture for the new house then went and bought a load of diving gear and I had to pay his tax bill with the majority of my rebate. The divorce followed quickly as he dived into another woman :-)

Now my OH and I keep seperate accounts. The house is mine (now mortgage free, yipee!) and I pay the bills. He pays food mainly and his own vehicle but I'm the salaried earner and he's self employed. He's not good with money but has been really broke and bankrupt (due to his divorce) and had an ex who spent everything or hid it in her own accounts, even the mortgage money, so he is frugal. Worst sins are not chasing people who owe him for work and going to the pub after work but those are nothing compared with the past!

I just bought mine at Costco, with voucher 40 rols for £11 and it is Velvet.
Otherwise I buy what ever is on offer, and fortunately OH never complained, because I would be telling him the same!!

Once actually he complained when I bought too thick toilet paper (well, it was on offer) because it gets used up quicker somehow??:rotfl:

Haha, I have one like that - he scours the cupboards looking for things that are nearly out of date and puts them in the bin. It drives me wild with fury (not just because of the waste of money)

Problem solved by decanting packets of things into plastic tubs ;) (Might have spent £10 on tubs, but have saved a lot more than that from the bin!)

His money wasting thing is 2-3 showers a day, 20 minutes each time in the shower, and another 15 minutes or so with the water on wandering around getting ready to shower. My water bill went from £11 a month to £45 after he moved in!
