My 2002 318ci E46 is on 178,000 and on the original clutch.
Last month the original exhaust gave up as did the original battery.

800k in 3 years? That's a constant 30mph without ever stopping. Wonder how much more they need to average to cope with refueling and picking up passengers? :)

I dont know if you know the UAE, but most of that mileage will be on the Sheikh Zayed Road, a super-highway that runs the length of the UAE. When it passes through Dubai and Abu Dhabi, its 7 lanes in each direction, and speeds of 60/70mph not uncommon.

It may not be a precisely three year service life, but I have seen a Dubai taxi showing over 700K miles on it.

I'm on my 3rd 520, an e39, I buy them with 80-100k on them and then keep them for about 5 years. Current 1 is a Y plate so 10+ years old. Bodywork is smooth as silk as is the 6-pot engine. 15 years worth of 5-series for 15K so far and no costly repair bills. Might even splash out on an E60 when they drop below £5K ...

My 1993 BMW 318 has 189,000 miles on the clock and no costly repairs, its still on its original clutch and exhaust!
  • This all makes my 71,000 look decidedly unimpressive. :)

I bought an M reg Escort diesel ex police car last year that read 53,000 miles on the odometer. The car was more like 153,000 miles. It had a mushroom growing out of the damp boot carpet once a chopped it in for a Nissan Almera diesel last September with a low 66,008 miles - now up to 68,500 miles. :)

    What's the secret?
All my diesels (and older cars) get oil changes every 5000 miles or annually, whichever is first.
Petrols are every 10,000 or annually.
Semi synthetic, or 20/50 classic oil.

Anyone never bother, or much the same?
  • A friend has a Ferrari with about 120 000 miles on it - used regularly still goes & looks great
