  • I managed to get my money back but that was a long time ago when their signup form didnt actually mention the membership fees.

I appear to have fallen in to their trap recently.

I was presented with a link to their site as what seemed to be a reward at the end of a survey for a company I thought to be reputable (I tried to find who in my history but failed).

After a quick look I seemed to have won one of their 'free money for bids' auctions & to pay £5.64 for it seemed like it was worth a punt. The payment process however didn't present a success message following a redirect and sent me back to the same page I had just filled out. I gave it one last go before sense hit me. (A few days later however 4 transactions for £1, £4.64, £1, £4.64 hit my bank account.)

I've emailed them and had the account closed within 24 hours and they have since claimed that no payments were ever made on my account. They have most recently 'escalated' and made mine a 'special case' before copy/pasting a load of stuff about their platinum membership fee and cancellation policy.

I noted on their T&Cs the fact that Paying Members are under this platinum membership stuff, so if my account was never involved in a payment I cannot have ever been bound by these terms surely?

Also I've just finished talking to the disputes team of my bank who have assured me any future requests from Ziinga's bank will be declined and they will dispute any transactions which occur in future. For now
  • In the email I got from them it has the following small print:

"You only have to pay shopping fee of £2.
Included with this payment is a 7 day free Platinum membership. Once the free days expire, normal monthly fee of £59.99 applies. The membership is only binding for 3 months."
So you could pay £181.97 for an iPod shuffle from Ziinga, or you could just buy one from Amazon for £49. Your choice.

As someone once said, Caviat emptor

DONT contact this company I have had a lot of problems with them this year. Its a scam.
  • Ziinga is a total con. I have been kicking myself for falling into this. I got an email saying that I had "won" a mobile telephone and like an idiot I applied for it, paying a £2.00 delivery fee. It was only after I had done this I noticed the small print stating that by accepting the "won" item I will be charged £69.00 a month subscription for 3 months. I immediately cancelled the order but was told I would need to wait until after 3 months before they would cancel the subscription. After several emails they said I could cancel if I pay a £35.00 cancellation fee. I did not pay these criminals a single penny. I quoted them Distant Selling Regulations and then changed my bank account to stop them getting a single penny. This was obviously a right hassle but I was furious with them (and myself). I have not heard from them since.

Lessons I have learned - read the small print and never use a debit card for internet purchases. I'm sure all you computer savvy people out there are shaking your heads at my stupidity but for others PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM ZIINGA OR ANY OTHER PENNY AUCTION SITES. THEY ARE A COMPLETE CON!!!
