Well done Mr B as a newbie on these pages I have still to read your diary in its entirety but what I have read has left me chuckling at your entries & applauding your determination. Those pesky Mars Bars just keep calling don't they. As someone who has recently entered the Low Sugar Lifestyle all I can say is persevere as eventually lots of stuff will seem just too sweet (yes really) & you find yourself deciding incredibly that that little sweet treat just wasn't worth it most of the time - not saying I'm perfect as I often fall off the wagon for a Honeycomb Crunch Magnum (but only when on special at the supermarket!). All the best Mr B & good luck with the career dilemmas.

And he's back! It's stupid o'clock and aside from the daily Ab Challenge I have already managed to shoehorn today's exercises in. Am just writing this to remind myself that it is worth getting up before the birds because then the adrenaline rush lasts all day and the thought of will I crack?/won't I crack? can't hang over me. Off to find that kettle.

Am determined that the break in proceedings is a minor blip rather than a complete meltdown, but, true to form - things have got a little more complicated than the straight and narrow path I was on...

Monday afternoon upon my return home with the little Bloaters I was ambushed by my next-door neighbour who informed me we had trouble out the back. Trouble turned out to be a section of ridge tiles falling off our roof. One nasty lump of concrete was at the base of the kids slide (which had been in heavy use over the weekend) and a lot of the tiles had landed where my neighbour has his recycling bins (he'd been out in his garden earlier doing the lawn) - so we were lucky that there were no horror stories. But I got myself into a bit of a flap about it and ended up hoovering up a few more calories than where strictly necessary (raided the crisps and chocolate bars) before being able to formulate a plan of action.

Anyway, to bring merciful release to a tale that is starting to make my shower hose news seem gripping, the insurance has said unless its storm damage they won't pay up, we're getting a price for the fix today, but have been reassured by a visiting roofer that there is no imminent problem to the tiles going as the house is still watertight.Yesterday I was too shattered to exercise and ended up asleep at 7.30pm hence I'm up now before 3am, But on the plus side - two of our credit cards randomly raised our limits without us even asking.

It's good to know that when the roof falls in we have enough credit to pay for it. It's all too metaphorical for me. I'm going back to bed.

Sometimes raiding crisps and chocolate bars has to be PART of the plan and this fits that category. How lucky no-one was injured . Make sure the increased limits are spent solely on fixing the roof now :naughty:
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

What made the tiles come off? Did you have high winds thunderstorms etc like we have had. In which case could the roof have suffered storm damage?

I agree with Igamogam, tiles don't just come off roofs. Something had to give them a helping hand. So unless you heard some marauding elephants stampeding across your ridge tiles the other night, and couldn't be bothered to check to see if they were breakdancing or waltzing, then it was most likely storm damage.

At least you have the facility on your cards to cover the cost if the insurance won't., but most insurance companies are paying out automatically at the moment due to the very bad weather of recent times.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Morning folks. Sad to report it's soggy out there. Another 7.6km run banked making it a total of 83km this month. Clothes are getting looser and people are commenting on how well I look. Still plenty of way to go but with this impending week off there are certainly no excuses.

Roof quote came in at the exact amount of my insurance excess so I withdrew the claim before it proceeded. It would have been difficult to prove storm damage - when we got the house surveyed before purchase we were told we had to fix the bridge tiles on the hip as the cement was eroding - we did this but never thought about the ones dividing our roof from our neighbours at the back. Never mind, could have been a lot worse.

Finances (roof excepted) seem to be trundling along alright, balances are slowly dropping and the big summer trip will be paid for on Tuesday. Job-wise I know exactly what I am doing from September, but just not sure how much I'm getting for it. To be fair, I did park the ball entirely in my employer's court so I should be grateful for whatever transpires - if it's not enough then I'll either negiotiate or else look for something better in the new year - am not fussed either way.

Should be keeping busy this week with one of my additional jobs which should bring in some spending money for the summer and also doing some general DIY / decorating stuff. And the Monaco GP - I'm not missing that for anything.

So things are bloating along quite merrily and nothing is busting the bubble. Hopefully it'll stay this way a while. Why do I get the sense of impending crisis when I typed that last sentence. Guess I must be tempting fate. (shudder)

Standard practice is to tell the contractor how much the insurance excess is, so they can work it into the price. Thus saving you having to pay.

Anyway. Boo to the roof tiles. Just want you don't need to de-rail your debt reduction efforts.
