It must be diary time: I have my trusty cuppa by my side, and am recovering from a fairly gruelling workout schedule this evening (8km run, 45 situps, 30 crunches, 30 leg raises, 35s plank, 50 squats and 75 dumbell lifts - if you were wondering). Contrary to previous times, I've not been banging on about my runs etc this time around, but suffice to say I am on Day 9 of my schedule and am hoping it will form a habit. I was sure I felt a rib earlier which would certainly signify some progress.

Have only fallen off the wagon once, last night I got a bottle of red (and loved it) and enjoyed a few more sandwiches than were strictly necessary but overall the halo has stayed up there pretty much all the time.

Shower problem is kind of fixed, the duct tape was a temporary but satisfactory fix, but it was still leaking merrily so I couldn't be sure that the tap itself wasn't at fault - the combi unit would have cost about £80 for a similar one (and that was with some serious shopping around) plus the no win choice of either lining the pockets of some plumbergeezer or else unsealing the sealed in bath panel and crawling into a dark recess (which would be a challenge even if I could see all of my ribs) to remove the tap mechanism. Luckily this weekend we had to stay down at my folks' place as Mrs B was doing something very intellectual at her university and so I was able to snaffle the shower hose from their place (I'm not a heartless son, they are bathers, and the shower hasn't been used in 15 years mainly cos there is no base, no curtain, no nothing - apart from the hose - and even that's gone now) and I was able to replace the hose on my return and woo-hoo - working shower - only trouble is that the hose is shorter than the previous one, so the shower head won't fit in the holder - tried making something earlier tonight out of cable ties but to no avail. I think this is possibly the most boring paragraph I have ever written. Thanks for sticking by me - it won't happen again.

Job-wise things are all at sea - think I might have missed the boat, but then not sure I was in the mood for a cruise anyway. All these metaphors are making me seasick.

Am very surprised that I haven't inspired a plethora of shower hose fixing anecdotes on here. You'll all be thrilled to learn that the cable tie construction kinda did the trick this morning. If I had been a foot shorter then it would have been perfect - it'll do for the week til I can find something better at the weekend.

Had a quick word with the boss today who rejected a suggestion I had as she has already 'pencilled me in' for something. Did not have time to find out what the something is but hoping tomorrow will bring some clues.

Was able to fit into my largest suit again for the first time in about a month - which was well timed as the button flew off the emergency fat trousers I had been relying on for the last few days.

Punishing exercise routine again done and ubiquitous cup of tea has been drained. Getting into a nice routine here.

Well done on the plumbing success. Your talents are endless. Hope 'the boss' hasn't got you pencilled in as the janny!

No soothing cup of tea tonight. I am sick. Proper sick. My insides are having a tough time. Enforced day off from exercise. Managed to walk crab-like around at work and now have some ideas of the plans I have been pencilled in for. Definitely do-able, just got to see what money is being offered. Early night and then I set sail back on the voyage of self-improvement tomorrow.

No cup of tea tonight cos I doubt I'd be able to keep it down but (pats himself on back) have managed to do a full day at work, make a start on my second job and do another punishing exercise routine tonight. Am not getting obssessed with numbers and distances this time (yeah right) but am pretty pleased to announce that in the last 10 days I have dropped 8lbs and clocked up 47km. Long may it continue. Hoping I haven't hexed it by letting the cat out of the bag.

8lbs! That's great Mr B :T. Some of that may be due your current 'delicate state' ;) so don't be too concerned if a pound or two pops back on for a day or so.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Phew! That was one of those days. Those pivotal days where you have all the excuses / reasons / justifications for going off the rails and then forgetting about where you were headed and ending up back at Square One again. But I made it through the wilderness. Somehow I made it through. Despite being home early / being offered to have some beer bought for me by Mrs B on her way home / being down the shops with cash in my hand after a haircut and bumping into the littlies and Mrs B who suggested I get some wine / sitting outside in the late afternoon sunshine and politely declining Mrs B's offer of a gin / despite the fact that within six foot of me here are 36 packets of Crisps and an industrial sized tub of odd little Mars Bars - smaller than Fun Size, more Mildly Diverting Size / having to deal with my two littlies in tears arguing with each other over Blu-Tak and myriad other reasons (not least of which is that it's FRIDAY!) I have resisted all the temptations that linger about this house and have stayed on the straight and narrow - the exercise is getting tougher and tougher but I am just about keeping pace - hate it at the time but love it afterwards. I am well pleased with myself - it might all crash down tomorrow but at least it hasn't all crashed down today.
