Is the mother-in-law returning like an annual event, something like a Les Dawson sketch?

Great to have you back Mr B and family!

And WHAT time do you call this? I said ten at the latest! You had your phone, what happened to calling us?

Just wait till your MIL hears about this.

Glad to see you back Mr B we were all worried about you and Mrs B. Where does your MIL live for her to be away and make a big appearance? Had a good week weight wise but ruined it today big time so not expecting a good result on Monday. Not doing too well on the fly lady front either so tomorrow will need to get my act together.Ah bed time soon as its freezing.

  • Don't put any more pressure on yourself. Work is priority and most definitely so are Mother-in-laws.

Glad you're safe and sound and still counting the pennies and pounds.

Am utterly punchdrunk at the moment- am dodging bullets, rolling with punches and a host of other metaphors I can't even think of at the moment. One minute the education secretary is effectively putting me out of job by scrapping my subject, then I only just get that sorted out and my loyal second-in-command was given the choice today to either resign or walk the plank. The knives are out and the buzzards are circling. I feel the need to wear a poncho Clint Eastwood styley but feel this would probably not be a good thing round where I live. What's also pretty frightening is that a very wise associate of mine told me the other day that the best thing that could happen to me would be to lose my job, cos then I'd be forced to put into action all the plans, ideas and schemes I have, and would start making some serious money. But that is not the sort of advice I want. I like the safety net, heaven knows I've come close enough to hitting the wall even with it, so I hate to think what it would be like without the regular income. Plus I love my job and without sounding too much like a conceited buffoon, I do make a difference. Every morning I wake up and think this'll be the day I get back into running, and every day I can't do it. Hmmm. What's to be done? Answers please on the back of used fivers to Mr Bloater, Uncertainty Lane, SE London.

MrB - loved reading your diary. I have worked in FE education for over 7 year now, albeit in a support role but my job is going **** up due to cuts, dropping A levels and the imminent acadamy being built so I am bailing out this year and going back into customer service. Good Luck on your journey - I understand all the carp you are facing and wish you only the best x

P.S I know I have made a big difference to some of my students and am proud to say I am still friends with them!

Dont know what to say Mr B - you know what to do for the best I guess. Sword of Damacles hangs low here too - I teach those that nobody else wants to but nobody wants to pay for it either - expensive service we are. So much sympathy with you. Could be the Universe beginning to tell you something though!!??

A very tough situation, and I'm sorry you're under such pressure. Whatever happens I think you are someone who could have multiple strings to their bow, and from what you are saying, it sounds as though you have some of them sketched out, at least provisionally.

For what it's worth, we don't know what we're capable of until we're up against the wall, and it sounds as though someone who knows you well can see the potential for you to do other things. As for the safety net - yes, this isn't the ideal time, but there isn't an ideal time. If you were comfortably off there would be no incentive, and if there were no other potential projects, you wouldn't be you. I don't doubt there's another book - or several - not yet typed up, and maybe not yet worked up either, but you've proved you can write successfully. You can also tutor... and you know better than us what else may be lurking.

Before we know it you'll be over with the Matrix generating multiple streams of income :D (*Ducks and runs*).

Anyway sleep on it. You could always ring up your associate to discuss your next move, and you will run again when you're ready.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
