I have a jar of a mixture of w/liquid and salt which i made up for more stubborn stains, as it gives a little bit of a scrub;) sure the salt does something but i dunno what!

    It didn't work :(

Is it because the stain wasn't fresh? I did the washing up liquid dabbing thing, then washed on 40 degrees with non-bio powder. Should I have done something different?

I'm a devotee of the washing-up liquid method. I smear Fairy on grease-marks before putting the clothes in the wash.

It's even worked on bicycle-grease stained jeans legs. :D
    Good, clean fun.... :D

Must admit that washing up liquid usually does the trick for me. However, as that hasn't worked thought I would search for you in a couple of my home tip books. Soaking in bio washing powder was one, the other was placing stained area face down on paper towels, then putting down dry cleaning solvent on stain - then brushing from centre of stain to outer edges with a dry white clean cloth. Probably not very helpful as dry cleaning solvent is not something I think lurks under every kitchen cupboard!
There was also a mention of grease stain being difficult to remove once it had been washed.

Despite being a mainly old style cleaner, I have to resort occassionally to the new fangled stuff, and from reading this board, a lot of us are like this - best of both, so the ocyclean kind of stuff is fine if it works for you. I just found out a few months ago about those microfibre cloths, and you just need water - first time ever I have ever managed to clean my windows without smears - did need one for wet and one for drying though, however am sure in the long run will be an economy.
  • Hi Can anyone help, I have a number of T Shirts which after washing still have marks on them. They are small grease marks and I have tried a number of products like Vanish to remove them but still they are there. I am washing them at 40 deg using the OS washing powder mix with soda crystals. Should I risk them on a 60 deg wash? Thanks Anne

Hi, Ive got the same problem on a couple of the kids items with chocolate icecream (thanks mum!) Im gonna risk the 60 degree wash as I think the clothes are too stained to wear out anyway so I dont have much to lose.

    Debt-free and Proud!
Just posted on the other thread with the same advice, but I will say it again, fairy green household soap, found in the laundry section in supermarkets, less than a pound for 2 bars, one will last ages.Wet the stain with cold water, rub in the soap until you see signs of stain going then wash as normal, voila stain gone.I have used this for years and never have any marks left on my clothes.
A quick tip for grease stains, when they are fresh put talc on the mark to absorb the grease,if the talc looks a bit wet add more, leave overnight then wash as normal, grease will have gone!

You can also use corn flour for this instead of talc.
