I doubt whether a cool wash will ever remove grease/oil. I usually pre-treat with washing up liquid and wash a little hotter than usual. Sometimes it takes a couple of washes but it does eventually go.

Another method for fabrics that will not stand a long hot wash is to iron the oily patch through a piece of kitchen towel so the oil is transfered from the clothing and absorbed by the paper towel.

A timely thread, as I've just discovered grease spots / splodges (splashes from cooking oil) on a newly-washed light brown T-shirt. I must remember to wear an apron when cooking; will I NEVER learn?! I'm going to try a big dose of washing up Ecover, and keep my fingers crossed!

My husband always manages to chuck food down his clothes

I often find myself ironing his tshirts only to find a greasy oil type mark in a prominent place.

I've always bought expensive Oxi action type products, but having found the latest splodge on his fave tshirt last night, I've today discovered that I'm all out of stain removal products.

Just wondering if anyone on OS can recommend a natural but effective way to get rid of oily marks?

Try dabbing with eucalyptus oil, or adding some to your wash.

Fantastic!! Off to give the washing up liquid a go.

Felt sure that white vinegar would be mentioned - I'd even got it out of the cupboard in preparation!

Another vote from me. Just put a dab of neat washing up liquid onto the mark, rub it in with a damp finger & wash as normal.
My OH is a messy cook, so I've gone for the prevention rather than the cure & bought him an apron after spending hours getting food splashes out of his clothes!

Washing up liquid works for me too. Put a small blob on the stain and then wash in the usual way.
