When you lot have finished all your techie argy bargy, how about getting back to the point of the post, which was to post details of decent & cheap modem/routers - I don't think I know squit about them, and I can't beat £35 (has anyone?) but reckon this might suit me for one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000E0YHF/kelkoocpc-cs-wireless-21/ref=nosim £42.73 including delivery

Isn't that what post #1 was about? No argie bargy but incorrect information needs to be corrected.
The link that you have provided is an ADSL router and NOT an ADSL Wireless router which may well suit your needs but it is not what this thread is about.
Read the Wireless Sticky at the top for more info. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Now now, espresso, stop picking on people by correcting their information."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Although fruitbat has now edited the post the link is still incorrect.
fruitbat Don't go back to cave to read luddites weekly, read the Wireless stick at the top. We all make mistakes.
Not picking on anyone but we don't want people buying the wrong kit do we!

Belkin routers have a lifetime guarantee.. call themEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
albertross wrote:Belkin routers have a lifetime guarantee.. call them
They need them.
Whose lifetime, yours or the router? Router fails after a couple of years, that's the end of it's lifetime. Like the old Scotch videotape lifetime, guaranteed until the tape is dead. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

I think a more suitable word would be 'broken' and not unstable. If a router needs rebooting daily or many times a day then there are significant issues with it, either it is knacker'ed or not being used within specification (usually P2P applications with a large number of connections), needs a firmware update (or downgrade) or is just a real cheapo nasty router.... I have seen a few of these.0 -

This item does not mention having a modem in it
Yes it does and yes it has, it is a Netgear DG834G which is an ADSL Wireless Router (and a very good 'un as well).0 -

MIMO devices rule by the way when dealing with Wireless area blackspots!
Also.....NEVER EVER use the DMZ IP unless you know what your doing....AND No it doesnt fix all your networking problems....and YES it is like leaving your front door wide open with a neon sign above flashing away saying idiots live here!
There are waaaaaay too many networking faux-paus out there! Educate yourselves on all this please people!!
I agree, but it very simillar to using an ADSL USB modem, i.e. all inbound ports hit the same PC/IP address.
There are real occasions for using the DMZ but as mentioned, it has risks, it puts the specified IP address (DMZ) on the internet (just like a USB modem). But, a good software firewall (and no, not the XP firewall either) will plug all the unnecessary port attacks allowing the real traffic through.
The DMZ has its uses and those that use them properly are certainly not idiots, quite the opposite.0
