Fed up of Co-op overcharging
Comments

We bought 3 packs of hobnobs on 'special offer' of £1 each.....got to the till and was charged £5.25 - easy to spot the overcharge there!!
We told them that they were on offer until (whatever date it was) and that they were advertised in their flyer that had come through our letterbox a few days prior. They simply removed the 'offer price' from the shelf!! Easier than updating the till system, just pretend the offer doesn't exist!!0 -
I've written and complained. This happens all the time and I don't see it as the fault of the shop staff. The offers may be deliberately left off the computers so as to overcharge, and labelling and displays are made as confusing as possible so you pick up the wrong products. ETHICAL my !!!!!0

i dont think its all co-ops the staf in the one i go to cant wait to reduce stuff for you and always give recipst also ic never been over charged i check alway every shop i go in it must just be some0

At my local co-op the staff are very friendly and I do like their reductions on food however I do not agree with not giving people receipts unless the customer asks for one. People should be given a receipt without having to ask the assistant for it. It may not bother some people but having a low budget it is essential for me to be able to check I have been charged the correct prices otherwise I may be short for the rest of the week.'Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves'0

I stopped using any Co-ops last year after months of being overcharged at the till due to 'offers' not registering correctly. It happened so often in 3 different Co-ops in my area that I concluded that they were either totally inefficient or were purposely abusing the system.
Either way, every shopping trip turned into a disagreement or caused lengthy delays trying to sort out problems (and embarrassment with a queue behind you) - so I decided not to ever shop in any Co-op again.

This happens to me a lot in Sainsbury's too, and it's very annoying! It's not the staff fault, but their tills don't always reflect the offers on the shelves, especially BOGOFFs and 2 for £3 etc. Often don't notice until I get home, and then it's too late! Rant over0

Happens to me a lot in my local Co-op, too, but once the staff (who are friendly & helpful) have the mistake pointed out (and then check that the complaint is valid), they refund without any problem, and immediately replace the misleading 'price' or 'offer' ticket (if applicable).
Having said that, how much money is the company making from customers who don't check their receipts ... assuming, of course, that they have been given one! Furthermore, a lot of customers probably use the Co-op for convenience of time (let's face it, apart from special offers, their prices have become uncompetitive, some to the point of being ridiculous), and if you have to spend so much time sorting out the overcharges, then it defeats the object ....
Perhaps as so many of us are now experiencing this problem, it would be worth each of us contacting the local Trading Standards Department to log these (company-biased) overcharges, where an 'overall' picture might highlight that the Co-op needs to be made accountable ...If it's cheap, I'm cheerful!0 -
I have just been to a petrol station near my daughter's school. After having filled my car with fuel decided to get a few items from the attached Co op even though I have recently boycotted my local Co op due to always overcharging.
As expected, they had overcharged yet again on two items. They did return my money but when I checked the receipt on getting home. I realised that there was a third item they had overcharged on!! I am not going back again as it would cost me more in fuel and time! I am very angry that this keeps happening every time I go to co op.
Their excuse is that the computers take time to update whereas the shelf tickets show the latest prices. How does this help the customer?
Customers are being misled into believing that they are paying what the shelf tickets say. In actual fact Co op is charging a different price.
I would urge everybody to boycott Co op. If not, please check your receipts!!0 -
Boycott co-op !!0

There is a Co op within walking distance from where I Live. Right next to it there is a local Sainsbury. I have compared the prices in both and Sainsbury seems to be a lot cheaper and doesn't keep overcharging like Co op does.0
