Fed up of Co-op overcharging

I've just got in from shopping at my local Co-op and yet again i've been overcharged  when i walk around, i look for deals- very MSE so when i see an item on special-i buy it and then get charged full price  Now i know the shelf barkers have to be read carefully as the deal will usually only apply to a certain size or flavour etc :p this evening was typical of what i've come to expect- co-op tissues normally £1.81 now half price - so i get charged £1.81.

When i complained i was told that perhaps the deal hadnt started - i said how would i know? the shelf barker was clearly displayed and had an expiry of 13th Sept- no "start from" date  Whilst i was talking to one shop assistant, the people in the queue started double checking their receipts and they had been overcharged on other items too  they had wine reduced from $7.99 a bottle to £3.99 but it goes through the till at £7.99

in the last 6 months i have averaged an overcharge of 19% of my total shop  imagine how many other people dont notice this...

I really dont want to drive to the next town for my basic shop but it would work out cheaper to use Ocado at this rate :p
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation ;)

When I get this and ask about it, they refund the money but hand me a receipt to sign for the total cost of the product not the difference they are returning
  • My local Co-op had a sign in front of Coco Pops a few days ago advertising them as being £1. When the box went through the till it rang up as £2.99. When I queried it they told me that the cheaper price applied to the smaller sized box. I then pointed out that the sign was in front of the bigger boxes and was therefore misleading and they agreed to refund me the difference. I wonder though how many people don't bother to check their receipts? I had only bought a few things and knew roughly how much it would come to, but I imagine if you were buying alot you might not notice that you had been overcharged.
  • My local Co-op usually doesn't offer a receipt. Perhaps it's to save the planet but the more cynical among us might wonder if it's because they do regularly overcharge.

Post 2 sounds as if they're not following refund process properly and maybe keeping the difference? Might be worth reporting to head office.
Spend less now, work less later.

    That sounds very odd...........

I only get a receipt because i insist on one- they dont offer them "company policy- saving trees/waste etc"

I wonder how many other people have lost their hard earned cash due to dodgy co-op practices- i feel a letter to trading standards coming on :(

Generally a refund will be put through at the full price and the product sold again at the amended price.

Not doing this would mess up the stock management system.

IMO, nothing at all underhand going on here apart from people jumping to conclusions.

All new ambient deals started today.

It sounds like an I.T. issue in this particular store where the tills had not been updated with new prices and deals effective this morning.

They are not being asked to take the product back, merely to charge the stated price and refund the differnce
