Fed up of Co-op overcharging

Wont have to worry about the Co-op in Glenrothes much longer, the town centre shop is closing at the end of next month, they have already got to the point where they are not re-stocking the shelves.0

Is the issue with Co-operative Food stores or stores owned by independent Co-operative societies?
In our area, they are all former Somerfield Stores, newly refurbished and rebranded as Co-op.
As i have stated, i actually like shopping there just not being ripped off..:mad:If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation0 -
I like the East of England Co-op because it's very local to me, the staff are nice, it has a decent range and occasionally they have some decent offers.
I must agree with a lot of people on this thread though. I have to check my receipts meticulously every time I shop there because chances are point-of-sale prices haven't been updated for new special offers or the shelf edge labels are out of date. At best it's unprofessional, at worst I would call it thorough dishonesty.
Couldnt agree more ^^If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation0 -
I had this too the other week - some of the bread was stickered as BOGOF, but didn't get reduced at the till, only realised when I got home. Got it sorted next time though.0

I wont shop in my coop because of the way their prices dont match the receipt and if i have to use them then i ask the price of every offer i collected to make sure the price is as it should be.
Now in my coop a lot of snobs go from the more effluent area and i can see them turning their noses up at me and wishing i was a tadpole
but its my money and i wont be ripped,my brother lives in a different part of the country to me and he too uses the coop very carefully and often has to complain about overcharging
my coop doesnt give receipts unless asked
my coop got rid of stamps
my coop is on its 3rd facelift in 6 years
small trifle in the coop 98 new pence
same thing in asda 34 new pence
i walked round last week mentally looking at prices (no i didnt sing and dance my way round:D) anyway the prices are a joke then you get the coop moaning about sales down
cut the crap and give us what we want-value
not to save the life of a starving kid of a family of 80 -
Somerfield used to do this too back in 1998, especially putting the sign next to the wrong product. Looks like when they got taken over by Co-op, they carrier on the practise. Since my experience, I ALWAYS check my receipts before leaving the shop.0

Well they will be Co-operative Food stores then. Issues must only be in their own stores and isn't the same in independent Co-op stores.
I suggest you complain to their Head Office in Manchester.0 -

When i complained i was told that perhaps the deal hadnt started - i said how would i know? the shelf barker was clearly displayed and had an expiry of 13th Sept- no "start from" date  Whilst i was talking to one shop assistant, the people in the queue started double checking their receipts and they had been overcharged on other items too  they had wine reduced from $7.99 a bottle to £3.99 but it goes through the till at £7.99
in the last 6 months i have averaged an overcharge of 19% of my total shop  imagine how many other people dont notice this...
I really dont want to drive to the next town for my basic shop but it would work out cheaper to use Ocado at this rate
In my local one, I kindly pointed out that they had a shelf end full of the more upmarket felix cat food with a big shelf edge label indicating you got 2 boxes for £5 but with small print indicating that the upmarket felix (whatever its called) was excluded ???? Now if i was filling the shelves, I would surely check that the big shelf edge label I was attaching referred to the products on display ?! the offer was actually £3.50 for upmarket felix - normal felix 2 boxes for £5 - I don't know if they changed the labels - haven't been in since.
I'm also reminded of those pitch chocolate brioche rolls things. I was very confused by what was and what wasn't included in the offer s (there were 3 different ones you could pick from)
after some time deliberating and checking the price labels took the offer items to the checkout only to be charged full price. When I queried this and it was checked, I was told i was wrong but then I went over and pointed out that i was in fact right! It makes me  and also worries me lots that they ask you whether you want your receipt or not when paying for your items because if you don't have your receipt, how can you establish whether you have been overcharged ?
oh and finally, there was a time when the milk we bought for the office wouldn't scan through the tills. the reason ? they were selling Te$co milk in co0p. the shelf stacker there must have been asleep!0 -
I've been overcharged more times in my local Co-op than the other supermarket in town, so now always check my receipt before leaving. This has been going on for years and before I used to get complacent about checking my receipt and stop doing it and wouldn't realise I'd been overcharged until I got home (nearly 20 miles away). So now I always check it. They are very lax and casual in there but I don't think they're dishonest - just inefficient.
I sometimes also keep a mental tally of how much I've bought so I know how much it'll be at the checkout. It's improved my mental arithmetic too.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
My local co-op doesn't do receipts either, but I'll be insisting on them and checking them regularly now.0
