    Hi Buffy.

I was thinking hotel for night before if it's an early sitting.

Travel is a big issue because I get so sick. Worse in taxi or ambulance. That's a level of Dante's hell.

On my own isn't a problem. Good book and I'll just shut off. It would only be for a few hours and then home.

I'm not a big fan of this cancer nonsense

Hi KJ so sorry to hear big bad booby is back.

Re journey to BGH - it's a pretty carpy road TBH - esp at this time of year - have a look at the traffic cameras (http://trafficscotland.org/livetrafficcameras/) for A68

I used to go down to St Boswell's every couple of weeks so know the road pretty well - it would take at least an hour (depending where you're setting off from) - I know someone who lives in Leith & works down there & it's taking her around 90 mins - and that's with no snow/ice.

Is there any leeway in timings for treatments - you could find the road closed at Soutra sometimes this time of year. HTH

Think it's totally out of order you can't get treatment at your local hospital/centre when you need it.

depending on what chemo you have it may be weekly plus some you have to have antihistamine with the pre med the one that knocks you out so not suitable to drive...then theres bloods the day before too.
I do hope that she can get you in your hospital to make it easier for you...our chemo unit is packed to the rafters to and is meant to shut at 5pm but many a time I've stll been there at 6.30pm as they run so far behind and they are run off their feet
  • re hotels - don't know how pricey it is but this one's lovely http://www.buccleucharmshotel.co.uk/ (have had several meals there but not stayed)

    Hi Rising.

Forgot about Soutra. I'm in East Lothian so probably equidistant from your friend in Leith. Not a great drive in winter.

St John's was also mentioned but they run pretty full.

I'll have to try and melt her little icy heart on Thursday. It won't be good for her trial results if I die...may drop that subtly in :D

It seems mental that they run awareness campaigns which drain all their resources, find no new instance of the disease and then they can't cope with the ones that actually have the flipping disease.

Mammograms are now identifying cancers which will never kill anyone but have to be treated when identified. Number is up at 3 out of 4 identified. Whole system all seems slightly out of synch or is that just me?

And yes...the answer to the "if we found cancer would you wanted it treated even though you'd die of old age before it ever touched you?" question. Of course I would...but I'd rather not go through the trauma in the first place. It is a bit of a conundrum...any thoughts?

So am I in EL!:D Unfortunately you'd prob still have to face Soutra (unless in the really southern part of the county)

My uncle had stomach cancer ... they said that by the time they found it, he'd probably had it around 8-10 years. He'd not had symptoms, it was found when they were doing a scan for something else (can't remember what now)

He had surgery and then had huge complications from it and was really, really ill for a long time - even now, he's not back to normal / as well as he was before having it. So ... another case where they maybe should've just left well alone!

think it's because all cancers are up not just breast cancer so more people needing treatment coupled with cut backs in nursing staff when in fact they should cut back on paper shuffling managers...

    Thanks all.

I think the Ice Queen and Mike have spats. He tried to push for two of us this morning and was allegedly told to !!!!!! off. I've got two other nurses separately trying to get me spots.

Not given up hope I'll get into Western. Mike wants me to kick up a stooshie with my MP if she doesn't deliver...I want to tackle it from a number of angles first.

Taxi, you're absolutely spot on. No idea what they'll given me for chemo and what they'll want me to take before hand. Hate steroids...makes your legs go jumpy all night.

Hotel looks lovely and I find it oddly calming to have options...barely diagnosed and already hitting the NHS machine head on.
