Hi SH,
Have a lot on my mind with council threatening court action over an absent tenent...she's told them loads of lies and I have to build a case to refudiate (ps she has no proof but that's not the point!!). Think about writing, copying in my lawyer to say I can't do this justice at the moment but will give you a full event history by the end of October (she's been uncontatable since Oct 10).
Any thoughts anyone?? Oh and theres no-one else can do this bar me cos no-one else was involved with her.
6th and last load on.
I am guessing that she rented a property of yours then didn't pay council tax?And has then said that she wasn't living there, and so the council are coming after you as the landlord?
In this case i guess just showing the tenancy agreement won't be enough? Is the repudiation of her lies something that can be done in 15 minutes bursts. And I guess is there a time limit? If there is then you may have to tell them how ill you are, and ask for an extension?
Maybe someone on the Matrix thread may be in that profession and can offer some help?

Chev's suggestion sounds good - I would definitely ask for an extension. 10-15 minute bursts is a good alternative too.
Loved the menopause cartoon - but OH says this year has been better as there has been no PMT inspired mood swings etc LOLAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Have only just seen this KJ and sorry to hear about everything that's been going on.You are strong and will get through this..you have had such a rough time with your treatment...may I just add something regarding paracetamol based products and chemo...I don't know whether your oncologist or BCN has told you that it is not advisable to use paracetamol whilst on chemo as they can mask the symptoms of ..gosh I can;t think of the name of it...something like neutrophilia..my arthritis was a lot worse during chemo and radio but is a lot better now.
Please try to get some rest in as your body is going through a lot...please let your friends help with stuff am sure they won't mind.
The post about your ex made me really angry ...words can't describe what I think of him..keep your chin up and sending you big hugs ..lots of them...0 -
Thank you all so much. I've risen from the pit today, stripped and changed the bed and showered...humanity has been restored.
I'm going to deal with evil little tenant slowly over next week. Long story short she rented a flat, didn't pay and I was put on direct payments. Long time passed, no issues and her gas check was due (for her safety I might add). Also all the flats up needed to be surveyed as part of OH and me splittling up. So we wrote and phoned, the gas boys phoned and texted and the surveyeors wrote and phoned. Eventually we gave her a date and the surveyeor and the builder turned up and let themselves in - they thought someone had died.
She'd moved out 10 months earlier (mail 3 feet high behind door). Everything of value eg her clothes, electricals, phones, documents etc gone. Everything else including used nappies stuck down couch, fridge and freezer full and power off for whole period, washing in machine, toilet unflushed, bins full....all there for us. So we stripped the place out, throwing out all our furniture as well, scoured it and saved the mail. There was nothing even fit for a charity shop.
Informed council who tried to bill me £4,500 for rent she shouldnt have had. I wrote explaining the above and council cleared me and made her liable as she'd breeched her housing benefit claim as she obviously didn't live there.
Now they've trackered her down and she's complained to the private rent department that I evicted her, didn't return her deposit, didn't carry out requested repairs etc etc. A lot will be her word against mine but I could really do without the hassle. And the paperwork involved will be horrific.
Scottish Power told me the arrears were up over £800 so that's another set of bills for her to pay.
So trying to think about cheerier things:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
What a nasty piece of work she is..just do everything in your own time.0

Thanks Taxi...I'm just taking it slow today and I'll catch up with the nasty bint when I've more strength. Disappointing part was the nasty accusatory email from the council jobsworth as an opener, not even a warm up...J'accuse from start to finish.
Still we will overcome as you and SH and others have proven, I will do my best to emulate:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
Hi KJ - how annoying re tenant and poor customer service. Surely if you all broke into flat together for gas check etc there's evidence of that....
Glad tho that you are feeling a little better and have been able to get up and dressed okay

Did you take pictures of the squalor before you gutted it? ie the 3ft high stack of paper etc, would be a powerful arguement in your favour! fingers crossed you can get it sorted. Can your ex help with any of this, or would that be counterproductive?
