Excellent news -enjoy your recouperation time-definitely the wisest move rather than going back too soon and compromising future work. The time will fly-get in some fun stuff before you return to work too.
As for your rant.........I think some people need to find meaning in the randomness of who cancer picks on and to find a "reason" why it was them or their loved ones whereas others take a more pragmatic view.
I do kind of "get it" In the space of a year my "rock solid" marriage blew apart, my son was diagnosed with a life long disability and to cap it all off my Mum had a brain anurism. Looking back I have NO idea how I survived all the carp that was thrown at me-but we work with the cards we are dealt put our heads down and just get on with it at the time-and then look back in wonder later as to how we didn't end up in the looney bin or just grinding to a complete halt.
I do find though I still draw from what I learned about myself and how I and others dealt with that horrible period -and it has made me -if not a better person -then better able to help others in those kind of situations. So maybe I too am guilty of "looking for the good in a rubbish situation" tooI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Hi KJ, so pleased to hear the treatment has gone so well. :j:beer:
I certainly think that people can get through so much more than they ever thought they could but it takes a lot out of them. I must admit I am becoming more & more uncomfortable with the idea that if people are positive they can 'fight' cancer.

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. My discomfort isn't with any of the fabulous comments and support here, it's the books and websites elsewhere where, and I've included Beanie's words as a guide, failure to beat cancer is due to a failure on your part because you weren't nice enough or positive throughout or you were angry and the stress got you. Having a PMA is fab as long as you've also a space where the bad days are allowed to happen. Families can be scared, bad things happen and the greatest blessing (for me) is having people around, real and virtual, or let you be you and allow you those hard days.
Taxi, the Trials Nurse said exactly the same to me. She said it's often after all the routine and "comfort" of hospital appointments constantly around the corner, that it's suddenly terrifying to be cut loose and told "see you in 6 months". She suggested I think about a support group for that drop-off period. Do you have a Maggies Centre anywhere near you? The Centre Head at Edinburgh is a chap called Andy and he's (a) drop dead gorgeous and (b) seems to understand me far too well. I have to admit to just going in, trying to get 5 minutes with him, he patches me up and kicks me out to go cope or fight or deal with whatever seemed overwhelming half-an-hour ago. I love Maggies and would recommend them in a heart beat to anyone dealing with any aspect of this, patient, family or friend.
I hope the test results are all good...fingers will be crossed. When do you hear.
My body's ignoring the sleep thing...I'll take husky out for a walk tomorrow and see if I can exhaust myself somemore.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -

Finally up and at it
Not a good night sleepwise and I think I tossed and turned most of the time I was horizontal, so (moan alert) I feel like I've been kicked by a mule.
Anyhoo...I'm showered, dressed, washing put away and breakfast smoothied up. I'm going to make a curry for dinner which huge amounts of veg and some brown rice. Then we're off to take Husky for a nice walk round the river and come back and tackle the [STRIKE]midden[/STRIKE] kitchen
Hope everyone is having a good one :T:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
Hi KJ - I think you should feel free to rant. I agree lots of good people survive cancer, and lots of equally good people including my FIL don't.... That's life sometimes...
I think the positivity thing is a factor in people's battle against cancer - but that should be active hope, combined with finding the good and fun in every day life which TBH we all need to try and do anyway. At the same time - they say the most stressful thing is pretending to be something we're not so for example customer service reps who have to smile and be nice in the face of customer complaints can find that very stressful without an outlet. We have a boxing bag hung in the garage and that way anyone in the family can give it a good punch and let off some steam in a healthy way.... Its important to have outlets for the emotions we think of as good as well as those we label bad (Read families and how to survive them to find out more on that)
When I do life coaching I advise people to write down how they really feel either in a journal or burn it - but then write down 10 things they are grateful for as well so they don't end on a negative.
Just a thought
