Overcharged on a 19.97 PSP game today but R&R refused as i went through the self pay till.
Anyone else had this problem?

    Which game was this?

Also believe they were right to reject the claim for r&r as on self service you are aware of the price when you scan it and pay for it as it flashes up infront of you and you clearly knew you were overcharged so maybe should have said something then..obviously you aint gonna stop a Supervisor and tell them this coz of the the policy but if the policy wasnt in place then you would have. If you went through a normal checkout then its not your job to check the price when the advisor scanned it.. it then becomes their role..so thats there mistake!

Policy does not state that it is not valid if you go through self scan. As long as you were charged more than shelf or price on product you should get r&r.

I know it doesnt state that.. but if the policy wasnt in place and you used a self scan an you scanned something and it came up £20 more.. would you carry on then queue at Customer services for a refund or would you say to the supervisor there and then its should be x amount not that??

Least going through a normal checkout Tescos have some chance of an advisor noticing the overcharge..but through a self service they got no chance. Thats why 9 out 0f 10 people go through the checkout and not selfservice as they know the outcome...no r&r.

If getting r&rs were accepted at Customer services then trust me the self services would have mile long queues as r&r would be sooooo easy!

All the self service checkouts I have seen in Tesco have an a5 size label on them identical to the ones on normal checkouts - this label has the "and if things don't add up" policy on it. Stores that have recently had self service checkouts installed included.

Why have the policy here if it doesn't apply?
  • I'm not saying if it does or doesn't apply but you can certainly see where tescos are coming from.

Like I mentioned before if it was easy to get an r&r form selfservice then why does everyone run the risk of going through the checkout and the Advisor noticing the price difference...they run this risk as they know its going to be alot harder getting a r&r by using the selfservice...

If we had a stats graph asking showing.. R&R from Selfservice or r&r from Checkout Til and another one showing knockbacks from Selfservice or knockbacks from Checkouts..you'd find that a high percentage dont get knocked back from checkout r&r and a high percentage get knocked back for r&r using the Selfservice.

If I remember rightly the A5 policy on the self service doesn't just stat "if things don't add up..." it mentions ways to pay etc.. If it only mentioned "if things dont add up.." then i'd understand but its MAYBE mainly there for the "how to pay..blah blah.."

    My question is..as asked before...

If the policy was NOT in place and you were at the self service and you bought a Item which was £20 but when you scanned at selfservice and it showed £40, would you
A: Let the supervisor know before carrying on scanning
B: Accept the price is wrong and pay for it and then go to Customer Services to get your £20 back?

i'd say the majority would choose A
But as the policy is in place the person with the psp game choose Hidden option C..knew it was an overcharge by 2p carried on scanning an paid an then went for the R&R..

What i reckon he should of done was go for Hidden option D...
D: Realised the Overcharge and maybe tell the supervisor he needed to get more shopping and to cancel all the scanned.. then walked around the shop and then used the checkout to be certain of the r&r..

Option E was same as option D but picked up another few copies of the same game :rotfl:
  • I have carried out most of my r&r's through self scan checkouts, and only once I have had a comment , 'oh you went through self scan!'
Even then they honoured r&r no questions asked.
Maybe I have just been lucky.

Strange after all in law you should be charged the lowest price shown.

I also use self scan and it has never been an issue on r&r. I also use clubcard.
  • Had my first R&R today - was made to feel that it was the end of the earth all for 72p.

How do you guys do this?

I have been tempted for a very long time but this was a genuine "Oh look at my receipt I have been overcharged"

the CSA was so rude and made me feel like a criminal- for what their mistake!

Thanks I have now vented my anger!
