I know this would never happen but imagine Mr T's surprise if everyone of us that use these threads took our custom else where for a month or so.

Several thousand shoppers going elsewhere the loses on the R and R's might suddenly not seem so bad!

Very true. I think it's so sad that tesco staff take this R&R so personally although its coming out of there own pocket or something!

Well if plushchris is right it is coming out of their pocket, if you have a crooked CS who pockets the full refund and gives the customer the difference. Allegedly....it's certainly possible although I am not suggesting widespread, and unlikely in the larger stores.

This had certainly occurred to me in small Tesco Express stores, where I have only claimed a few small R&Rs but have NEVER, EVER been offered the full refund up front. I have wondered if they save the refunds towards a staff 'jolly' at the end of each week, it would soon mount up as we know too well.

Once I had to call Dundee over some nice Champers where they had left the 25% off undated yellow SEL up for a week after expiry of the offer on the tills. They claimed to have no clue as to a full refund policy and that coming back in to see a manager wouldn't change their offer of the difference only. Phoning HO changed their minds pretty sharpish though.

On another occasion I had to be VERY assertive (never aggressive though) to a Manager who said 'no love, not here we don't, Expresses don't have that policy'. Imagine if an uninformed customer was told that, they would believe it every time.

OK, a challenge for any investigating journalists....if we have any browsing on here:

Go into an Express (Tesco small shop), find a shelf label lower than pack price sticker (try the chilled stuff) or an out of date yellow shelf label offer, buy it then leave. Go back in and tell them you seem to have been overcharged and just see if they offer EITHER of the policies. IMHO they won't. Disgraceful.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The board in my local store has Double the Difference up now - a brand spanking new board.

Today I bought a loaf of bread reduced to 16p but was charged 79p.

So I should have got the refund of £1.26 and the loaf. But they didn't do this - instead they refunded 79p and gave me the loaf. Now by my reckoning that is NOT double the difference.

I feel a call to Head Office coming on tomorrow morning.

UPDATE: I just called and spoke to head office regarding this and HOT NEWS - They currently DO NOT HAVE A REFUND POLICY AT ALL! The new Double the Difference policy does not come into play until next week - 26th feb, and at present they have suspended all other policies while they look into them. SO Basically, if you are overcharged between now and when the new policy comes in to place then you should only be given the difference back.

This was straight from Head Office at 3pm today.

Surely Trading Standards would like to hear about that Katskorner ? How can they be showing a policy of Double the Difference and yet not be keeping to it?

    Seems illegal to me.

Did just that and guess what- R&R is to remain in action until 26th FEB regardless of the signs - if you don't get your R&R then you should ring HO until this date.

    From Head Office at 3.25pm.

My sympathies are with you Tesco Employee. It would be my worst nightmare to have hordes of scavenging !!!!!! descend on me while I was trying to do my job.
Hope it isn't too harrowing an experience.
