  • queues at customer services may actually reduce without people with items they had deliberately bought to R&R and either claiming that or returning them because they had been charged the right price.

I am not defending Tesco for sloppy point of sale procedures but would suggest that their approach to remedial action may be a clue as to why they are the market leader. The message should be "check your bills!" not "get a free telly!" it just seems slightly dishonest.

Yes they can afford it out of their profits........but isnt that what the shoplifters say?

so you never intentionally r&r then winjackie?

If I have seen something that is mispriced and I would be buying that in my weekly shop (example - chicken/chicken breasts) then I have bought them in the knowledge that I may get my money back but I would not deliberately go out and try to get a plasma tv or the like. Having said that, if someone went in and got one, who I am to judge them. Good luck to them I say.

Sorry that I don't know how to post within a box like the rest of you!!

Winjackie's post reflects my sentiments on this entirely. Furthermore, it really makes my blood boil when they are alerted to an overcharge and merely take away the lower price from the shelf and continue to deliberately overcharge each subsequent customer, often for weeks at a time.

    Hardy,

To get quotes in boxes, use the "Quote" button on the posts.

The point you make about continual overcharges is a bit subjective. In law, they should be selling at the lowest price shown. If that price is removed, then, technically, there is no overcharge.

Where it gets a bit blury is that there is this mythical uniform price policy that is supposed to mean that all stores charge the same. Such practices should trigger this policy to be breached (Please correct me if this is no longer a Mr T policy). However, it's not much wash to say that XXX is £1.02 cheaper in the store 20 minutes away than it is here. Where it would work is if there's an advert somewhere that makes the claim and you bought the item on the strength of the advert.
  • so, winjackie , are you saying you only r&r things that you would normally buy in your weekly shop anyway?
  • I got 2 dvds today (sugar rush) and could have had much much more.
    I also saw --
    Law and order incorrectly stickered.
    Nintendo DS games (19.94 2 for £30)
Another box set - cannot remember name (stickered £29.99 - SEL £49.99)
And 3 sections of shelving long by 5 shelves deep FULL of 3 for price of 2 DVDS (offer end 11-2-7)
10 days ago they had dr who series 1 incorrect SEL of £45.xx or so and scanned at £57 or £58 Cannot remember exact prices?
Unfortunately today someone beat me to the symphonic dvd/vcr player!

THIS IS IN JUST 1 TESCO STORE

And stores wonder why people in the know R&R???????????

Going back there tomorrow its a goldmine :D

Most customers ask for R&R because they've been overcharged and Tesco have been giving it to them out of goodwill. The professional R&Rers are doing it for a quick buck. Because of the latter the former are going to lose out. No one seems to mind if Sainsburys, Waitrose, ASDA, Morrisons or whoever are mis-pricing.

Sorry to have to correct you, but I do mind if I am overcharged by ANY store. In the last week I have returned twice to Sainsbury re overcharges ....the reduced price stickers hadn't fully covered the original bar codes. In both instances I got a refund of the overcharge, a smile and an apology.....not a full refund and a free item, but I still pointed out their mistake to them.
Also I have returned a few times to Asda this year and got a refund on an overcharge, plus on all occasions (this year) been given a gift card with £2 on....which in effect gave me the products for free :D

Yes without a doubt Tescos overcharging brings greater rewards to those who spot it, but considering they are the biggest supermarket chain, presumably have the greatest number of customers, and the greatest volume of sales, the extra income they generate by the scale of their overcharges must be enormous.

The vast majority of times I have been overcharged in Tesco is due to ood sels or price stickers, or linked savings/multiple purchase offers not kicking in. Most of the overcharges in other stores have been down to human error such as not covering bar codes. On the few occasions it has been due to a pos/sel or multi-save gliche, it has been fixed by the next time I went in !!

I honestly don't think I would report Tesco to TS, I never have any other store yet, and they don't give R&R. I have neither the time, nor the temperament. I will still check my receipts, and I will still go to the cs desk to complain when I am overcharged, esp if it is double the difference.
Apart from R&R, my local Tescos are very good with accepting coupons ( at the moment), but who knows when a change of local management or National policy may change that too

Maybe it is just The Old Bag, but I would also return to a store to complain if the "product was not fit for purpose", ie if it were broken, rotten, damaged etc. This is another area where I think the majority of supermarket shoppers "cannot be bothered" to make the effort to get what they have paid for. Perhaps this is why I have not been banned, even though I have very few Tescos to chose from. I don't just complain about overcharging for large items, but EVERYTHING. If it is chewing gum, or a computer game. They know the Old Bag checks her receipt, so although they may dread the sight of me heading to the cs desk with a receipt in my hand.......they are so used to it, I don't think they are suspicious !!!......thanks to the Nora Batty Stockings ;)

Sorry if any of these have been posted before but just back and haven't had time to check!

X? Farm Chicken Breasts SEL £7.59 Pkt £9.49

Just got £45.50 back through R&R so they definately work!!!

I get confused with prices on meat... in this example does the sticker on the chicken breasts show the SEL price but actually scan at £9.49? Or does it show £9.49?

I made this point a few posts back. Honestly, if you do a big shop of 30 or more products, could you honestly remember the price of the Value Lemonade or the Tinned Kidney Beans from the price of the cornflakes? The answer for many people is no. Therefore, checking bills is not really an answer unless you're making notes as you go around and most people don't - perhaps we all should.

I can remember *MOST* of the SEL prices as I have trained myself to do this (though I can remember !!!!!! all else like the fact that I specifically bought a low cost DVD yesterday because I had a 300 points voucher against DVD purchases but forgot to use the voucher).

I'm not sure who you see as being dishonest? I'd have 20 plasma TVs from Tesco if it was too stupid, lazy, disinterested, disorganised, dishonest etc to stop them from being overcharged. I don't see it as dishonest, it's taking advantage of the fact that this massive company with extremely healthly financial resources can't be arsed to clean it's act up.

It's about consumer revenge and, beleive me, the company itself wouldn't hesitate to do the same to it's customers. It's in it for itself - so are it's customers. We're all looking after number one.
  • Tesco are changing the R&R policy from Tesco wk 1 (a week next Monday). They will only be offering twice the difference in price, NOT a R&R.

Sites like this are the reason behind the policy change, FACT.
