I think porting to android initially will be risky.... wouldnt like to be a pioneer and brick the touchpad would you?
Cyanogen wont release it till it's safe, if the design is anything like the android devices they're almost impossible to brick. Don't think I suggested anyone rush in till it's ready (not that it's even been released yet of course) but just that it's going to happen at some point so if there's not an app available don't panic about it0 -
I dont think it was ever in stock at John Lewis this morning as I've been hitting the F5 key since about 10.30 am. I'd checked JL site and noticed that they had put the HP Touchpad back onto their site showing Out Of Stock having withdrawn it on Saturday (I didn't manage to get one then either) however wondered if they were about to put more stock on line or had it been in stock before 10.30 am then sold out? As you checked for stock after 11 am dont beat yourself up about just missing out, there wasn't any there when I started looking at 10.30 am
Web page was updated at 11:36 saying Stock:1 where it says out of stock. By 11:37 it was saying out of stock again. Using alertbox for firefox.0 -
I have been following the threads on Android being available at some point (probably)...As was said, don't won't to be the pioneer on that one!
As it comes out the box today, the touchpad machine is somewhat limited.0 -
Insight UK and all their 16Gb Touchpads are now sold.
They have 86 x 32Gb Touchpads remaining at £174.99 plus 20% vat and £10.99 shipping.
£221 is far too much for me to afford.
They said they won't be reducing the price, as they will all be sold soon.0 -
JL had stock around 8:30am this morning but it went within minutes0

So why not drop the price and continue to produce them then? A good product is a good product, and the opposite also applies.
Because the thing costs money to make, advertise & sell. Realistically products like this cant be sold at a profit at £100-200 which is why the products in that price range are getting terrible reviews as theyre unfinished, cheap internals cobbled together in china with no quality control or upgrade roadmap. you get what you pay for really.
as has been said for a tablet to mess on with this is great at this price, but the people saying its an ipad killer have to be joking. cant really see a lot of developers bothering to develop for this, and while putting android on it is a possibility, youve then got an unsupported device when things start to go wrong. id rather just keep it native and use it on the sofa.0 -

To some degree it is from a price point of view as the cheapest Ipad is £399 and most will be used to either surf the net or play games just as the Touchpad will be used for the real stumbling block is the amount of apps and the following Apple have compared to the TP.:)0
