the ipad is quite neat and the hp touchpad is near identical to the ipad 1 albeit feels slightly heavier - easily worth £199 let alone £89
as for the ipad pricing thats a joke - crazy price
the hp is very good imo, screen is responsive, nice quality with near apple crispness, nice case better than the apple imo and also no cable induction charging via the superb touchstone that even works if you have the case on!!
so the hp v ipad 2
hp pros
miles cheaper
flash
cableless charging via touchstone
hp cons
heavier
bulkier
uncertain webos support
obsolete hardware
will be interesting to see what happens next - what will amazon do re: pricing of their tablet - if <£200 and its of hp touchpad quality and uses android then apple should be worried
He's not deluded at all. The HP Touchpad is a great bit of kit for the price but I'd never pay full price or anywhere over £100 for one to be honest. in 6 months if a massive security flaw is discovered in WebOS you will have to rely on someone in the community hacking it to resolve it whereas apple will continue to develop their software. When IOS5 comes out with new features, iPad can upgrade to it to keep ahead of the game, same with IOS6. What will you upgrade your touchpad to in a years time? What about when its damaged, and nowhere has a replacement in stock for your insurance? Start again from scratch on a new ecosystem? When I had my iPad stolen I was back up and running within minutes with my iPad thanks to restoring from a backup. What about when you come to sell in 18 months? Touchpad will have a tiny value. ipad holds its value well like all apple products do.
I use my iPad professionally through work (Manager), privately through my own business (Photographer), and personally it has been around the world with me and I love it when people say that lack of flash is a failure point. I literally cannot remember a time when I 'needed' flash and have never encountered an HTML5 error. Maybe I don't play Farmville enough.
It's hilarious that you think the iPad pricing is a joke, 'a crazy price' - its obviously not when you look at the sales. It's priced well compared to its competition (actual competition, not fire-sale prices because a competitor has realised they've messed up big style) and I think its pretty funny that you think Apple would have anything to worry about from Amazon's tablet offering and in the same post you called someone else deluded. If Amazon offer a tablet it will in no way shape or form compete with the iPad. If anything, it will be competing with B&N's Nook Color. Apple already have around 90% of the tablet market so its going to take a lot more than a color e-reader/discount tablet (of which there are already MANY on the market) to dislodge them. It would have to be an absolute all-rounder star performer with a massive developer base right off the bat to provide a huge amount of apps for consumers, tick all the right hardware boxes, improve on the ipad and yet still somehow magically hit that 'cheaper than ipad by a long shot' sweetspot to tempt people away from the iPad...but of course that just isnt going to happen. It makes me laugh how those with that own iPads, that haven't actually tested anything other than an iPad are so quick to put a downer on any other brand of tablet just because it's not got a half eaten apple logo on it's rear.
It also makes me laugh when people who dont own ipads assume that anyone that does is an idiot that didnt shop around first, or keep an eye on the market to see if something better comes out. I consistently read reviews and try new products out in the shop. I read a whole ton of gadget sites and attend trade shows occasionally. I know exactly whats on the market, beyond watching a few youtube videos, and I still selected the iPad, but keep on trollin'. For christ sake, there's a reason HP !!!! a brick and canned these products - they werent selling and for good reason. At their firesale prices they represent a steal - my parents picked one up and they love it. Would they rather have an iPad for the same price? Definitely! but its not an option.
Anyone who's response starts off with 'Apple fanboy' immediately loses any respect I would have otherwise had for them because you know right away its going to be such a trite response.0 -
ipads are great as well as the iphone but not in standard form. To get the best from them they have got to be Jailbroken and then the really unleashes all of their best features including wifi syncc, unrestricted 3g, TV out, SSH, quick disable functions and apps on the lock screen.
The only other thing that annoys me is that they never release a finished product, ipad 1 released lack of flash, lack of camera etc.. ipad 2 comes out and wow it's got 2 cameras and still no flash. Will ipad3 have flash? no I doubt it because it's all down to pride now with the disagreement with adobe.
Anyway still a good product but it's only a matter of time before an Android tablet wipes the floor with apple and their IOS devices.0 -
Having used the touchpad for a week or so - I'll paid £89 for it but I certainly wouldn't pay £199 for it...0

Actually I've heard that adobe backed down over this one...I'm by no means pro-apple in fact I'm the opposite but the truth is whatever the situation they'll keep coming out on top our only hope is that Android gets ported over to the touchpad (which will happen VERY soon) and continued support for google who as it stands are the ONLY company with the means of knocking apple back down to size!0 -
:mad:I have recieved part order from Sunday early morning,,1 sandwich toaster |No touchpad called ARGOS no record of touchpad order. Admit glitch they say never had any stock...just have to keep trying.. a sorry day:( funny how the sandwich maker was on same order and got here ok.....
Just seen this in todays Metro
"Police force should be more like Argos, says top policeman
Greater Manchester's top policeman has defended plans to close police stations to the public, saying the force should be more like Argos....
Mr Fahy said: "When you order your table from Argos you expect them to get back to you and tell you what time they will call round. "
Sorry we have no record of your 999 call ?0 -

hp cons;
fingerprints easily and removing them more difficult than ipad. :rotfl:0 -

How though? I'm impressed with my ipad but I struggle to use it as anything more then a showing off tool - its quicker for me to keep the laptop on sleep if I want to quickly check the web or look at facebook... and if I need to keep up to date with work emails etc i have my iPhone.
Anything else 'work' related seems so basic / limited on the iPad but hey maybe im missing something so i'd be interested to hear how you use it effectively for work0 -
ashe - did you miss the bit where HP said it was dropping webOS HARDWARE and that it would continue to support and update the OS? Your comments about security updates are, therefore, irrelevant.
If a Touchpad gets damaged in a year you will be able to replace the whole thing cheaper than an iPad screen will cost - didn't you hear they're £89!?!0 -
Ah gutted I missed this! Would of been a great present for my grandma!0
