To me, folk deffo wanted the low price of the HP tablet irrespective of the gadget's capabilities ... 1 general look at these boards tell me that a lot of folk are addicted to buying anything as long as the price is right just to get them through the day ... you get what you pay for and these HP things seem pretty poor. A view that is pretty much endorsed by the manufacturer themselves ...

That's why you think they're being discontinued? They're being discontinued because HP hit above their weight and can't afford to keep producing them as they weren't selling at the price they had set, which is why now, only after the current lot flew off the shelves after a price drop, with fresh money in their pockets have they announced they will produce one last batch to deal with the massive demand for them.

If they had set a more realistic price for them (£150/£200) like has been said many times in here, they wouldn't be discontinuing them.

Having used the touchpad for a week or so - I'll paid £89 for it but I certainly wouldn't pay £199 for it...

I agree with you on that, i have the 32gb so it was £115 which I think is a fair price, but I would be a bit narked if id paid full price for it x

How though? I'm impressed with my ipad but I struggle to use it as anything more then a showing off tool - its quicker for me to keep the laptop on sleep if I want to quickly check the web or look at facebook... and if I need to keep up to date with work emails etc i have my iPhone.

Anything else 'work' related seems so basic / limited on the iPad but hey maybe im missing something so i'd be interested to hear how you use it effectively for work :)

There are a ton of productivity related applications that can help you out. Obviously open office allows you to create and edit documents and I've used this many times on the go. It's not as convenient as having a 17" laptop in your bag, but it doesnt weigh 1.5kg or last only an hour or so either. I also use LogMeIn to control my workstation remotely. This is useful if I need to access a system, or transfer a file (It has a local and remote file transfer utility) and this comes in handy a lot. I also use various note programs, to-do lists, flow chart/project apps, making quick yet neat presentations on the go etc. It depends on what you need to be able to do, however I find my iPad very useful for this. I have a work-supplied Samsung NC10 and I loved it for about 3 months but since I got the ipad I've not used it.

Can I ask what is wrong with it please? I have bought this as a present but if there are problems with it it would be nice to know before hand.

So why not drop the price and continue to produce them then? A good product is a good product, and the opposite also applies.
  • According to my website checker John Lewis had one 32gb on sale at 11:36. It sold before I could get to it.

Because they are running at a loss with the lower prices, what is the point in carrying on with a product if they're not making profit on it?
