It was an LG 11kg model I was looking at too pigpen, I believe there is to be a 1600 introduced but I need one now and can't wait.

Look at Jade Technology for a good price. Watch out for connection/recycling fees when comparing prices.
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x
  • I used to work in white goods electricals, I would go for a Bosch or Meile every time. I wouldnt consider any other brand.

Buy a Bosch, if you can't afford a Miele

The difference between 1400 and 1600 spin is very marginal, I doubt you would actually tell the difference.

    Go for the bigger loads

If my mum could buy again, she said she'd go for a Bosch everytime as her Miele is !!!!!!!!

And she does washing for 4 adults every day including dog beds and horse rugs.

    Bosch all the way :D

Siemens 8kg model and get one with the 5 year parts and labour warranty.Similar warranty to Miele but half the price and far better than Hotpoint, Indesit etc

Anything over 1200 spin speed and the resulting dry/wet clothes is marginal - more to do with how well it spins

Also consider the ISE range if you want bullet proof or good back up - prices up there with Miele though so need to look at life time cost rather than initial cost only

I have a Miele and am happy with it, though have only had it about 6 months. It's also an 8kg one and I wash for 2 adults and 3 children, including nappies so it's on constantly. The wash cycle isn't too long, it's quiet and the clothes come out clean so I'm happy.

I bouggt mine because it has a 10 year guarantee and all my other machines died within 2 years max. I've had lots of makes, last one was a whirlpool, which lasted just over a year :( and the one before was a zanussi.

Although the Miele was expensive the guarantee and customer care promises, if they hold up, were what sold it for me. Its such a hassle to be without a machine even for a few days and have to drag bags of stuff to and from the laundrette, that I was prepared to pay through the nose for something with a reputation for reliability.

    I thought I was being a realist. :D

My OH does the washing in this house just as much as I do, but his opinion of a washing machine is it's fine if it washes and spins. I like to delve a little more deeply. :D

Ok Hotpoint is off the list.

I can't justify Miele prices, this is a rental property and I need to buy 4 large kitchen appliances (wm/td/fridge & freezer) so just can't afford to spend shedloads on one appliance.

So it's back to size or speed in the mid range brands. I read interesting articles on the UK White Goods site that discussed both things and there are pros and cons to having large and fast. Nothing is ever simple is it? :)

I just keep thinking about my duvet. I wont get that in an 8kg drum. :undecided

Apparently the John Lewis own brand ones are hard to beat, or so I heard from the man who delivered my last dishwasher

I've got an LG something or other... I dunno... It's 9kg 1400 spin and does the job fine. Pretty highly rated but pretty pricey too, although I believe there are cheaper models on the scale.

Mum had Hotpoint washing machines for years... note the plural... they were bloody rubbish pieces of junk.
